Hi all, I'm ready to order some garden hoses for my home and am undecided between Craftsman's All Rubber hose and Gilmours' Flexogen - they both seem to be high-quality products and get great reviews, anyone have any experience or opinions they care to share?

CM black rubber hoses are great hoses, have three.

(of course all hoses will be 3/4 outlet connector if that's what you mean??)

Also have the flexogen, great hose.

Both are heavy hoses but very durable.

Also have a 1/2" waterright hose, not too shabby and feather light and not cumbersome.

Have some other hoses, but not in same class as above and my wife got "suckered in" on one of those scrunchy hoses = pathetic (although she is still bound and determined to like it).

Women aren't going to like toting more than 50ft of the craftsman black snake or the flexogen. I planted some okra in the middle of my field where I had a field test done and the soil was already tilled so to speak from the 6ft dig. Well it was about 150ft stretch with the black snake - thank goodness it was okra, i tried to let it die but it thrived on lack of water.

The flexogen goes to the horse trough and I have to move to mow. Beefy and thing is a beast laying out in the sun and field grass relentless and still solid after 5+ years.

.............but once again if you plan on coil either of these snakes past the 50ft length you will start yodeling before your done = no sh*t, b/c lasso'ing a 100ft is a man's job and the best that the "little woman" can do is pile it up in a mess.

The waterright is dainty and the 1/2 hose dia. still delivers (of course......), but this is a new edition and can't speak to it's longevity.

A put a riser on before the pressure regulator to house and was hitting 190psi, the black hose CM stood firm, but anything medium or labeled even HD would bust a gut - so it's tough.

I'll do some research for the name/type...but on the jobsite we always use those big heavy red ones...They last forever in the sun, super durable/wear resistant.

But they are heavy, and you will not coil them. THey will roll into a 4 foot roll on the ground though.

I forget the brand but I've got one of those as well. It was sold as a 'hot water' hose. Tough as nails, but heavy and cumbersome. Still, it's outlasted at least 3 'regular' hoses so far and shows no signs of giving up any time soon.

I bought and returned EVERY single 3/4" hose Home Depot sells and they ALL KINK.

I ended up with the black Goodyear one but it still kinks, just less so.

I have a 100 ft. 3/4" hos from Costco I bought literally 15+ years ago an that is the ONLY hose I've ever owned that does not kink. It's scuffed to hell and the body of the hose has become sort of "ribbed" like it's getting thinner or something. The word "commercial" is impressed on the hose every few inches. I've not found it again, and I looked.

DUH! Goodyear...the big red one...the black ones not so much.

But yes, my red goodyears are HEAVY and that's ok with me...but GF don't like them b/c that's "man ****". She uses the little grey one at her garden.

off topic but what is a great hose reel to use that will not leak ????/

You probably mean one you can roll up. So this is probably moot. I concrete a 4x4 in the ground about 4' tall, grab an old wheel from a truck, and drive a lag bolt through the 4x4 to hold it. I wrap my hose on the wheel. But I only use those big heavy Goodyears on my property.

I have seen hose reels on CL...the big kind like we use for pneumatic hose that hangs from shop wall/ceiling. Those are badass! I just noticed last night at HD they have them installed for use at their outside garden area. (I'm quite certain they don't sell them).

Here's one local to me. http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/tls/3753404392.html

Thanks for all the input gang, I _really_appreciate it!

Looks like I'll go with the Flexogen for my 3/4"-all-the-way-car-wash-special adjacent to the garage, and the CM 5/8's" elsewhere.

Both options aren't easily lugged around, but I'd already decided to go with the rapidreel wall-mount reels, which I've had the chance to use and which get excellent reviews - not cheap, but to quote the one of the many the wise sages on this forum: "Buy nice or buy twice!"

Thanks again for all the input!

Another Craftsman black hexagon hose user here.
I've used all kinds of garden hoses, even commercial grade ones (paid good money for that one!) - but none have been as good as the C-man black hose.
