Looking for marking knife and marking gauge

As the title says, I am looking for recommendations on a decent marking gauge and marking knife for woodworking. Doesn’t have to be Starret quality, but something that is well-built. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thank you.

You looking for a wheel type or wood block type? I've got a Veritas wheel right now.

Soooo many options there, it depends how you work, and what you like.

I have six or so vintage Stanley 77 type Marking and Mortising gauges, and I just don’t like them. They’re beautiful, but just don’t give me satisfaction of a job well done. Probably me, not the tool

I gave a few disk and round beam type, and they seem to work better for me. I don’t have any of the fancy micrometer adjusting ones. I even have one with four beams on it. Most have the wheel marker, one may have a knife blade

I also have am Incra ruler, which was my go to for a decade, with the 0.5mm pencil.

MOst used marking knife is currently a spear point one sided bevel, skinny one, have both Hock and Utilitas versions. I also have a bigger Hock violin style, single bevel, flat on my left when pulling towards me.

I think wheel style would work better for my needs

If you gave a bench grinder, just buy a fully hardened hacksaw blade, and grind the blade into a marking knife.
If you want something thicker, then buy a few mill knife blades and grind those down.
Most fancy woodworking “marking knives” have never looked like great designs to me.
These spear point Japanese knife blades don’t look bad, but you might want a more acute point.
You can also go with single bevel designs, but then you really need a right and left hand blade, and it’s still convenient to have a spear point blade.
There are some “leatherworking” knife blades like the Garrett Wade ones that also work well.
