Looking for metal lathe tool holder and ?

New to my Craftsman/South Bend lathe. I have standard holders R, L, straight and one that seems to index. But, I got whole box of those little triangular carbide tools mostly w/o the center hole. Need a tool holder with the clamp to use these. I have the original tool post that came with these machines. So, it's an arm kind of affair. I saw on this pic that it was called a "lantern" style. I have a few of these holders, but nothing that will hold the carbide.

And I think mine are narrower.

For the triangle shaped inserts without a mounting hole, it sounds like they are TPG/TPU inserts & you would need to use a clamp type holder (scroll down past the first section) for them. But you will need to figure out what size your inserts are as there are 3 sizes for them, 1/4, 3/8, & 1/2 IC.

For the holders you posted a pic of, as you said they would be used in a lantern tool post. For the clamp type holders you would need a quick change tool post or a turret tool post.

I have a quick change and I don't know to use it or mount it. Something is not right with the plate that goes in the t-slot. I assumed the man I bought the lathe from only had one lathe but some of his tooling doesn't make sense.

I have many carbide tools. Most are about 1/2" along 1 side. I was hoping for some kind of universal holder. I better join a machinist's forum and get up to speed.

I tried to download some kind of manual, but they are hard to find.

I missed where you posted about the lathe or what size it is. Those holders you have pictured are very big like for a 15" + lathe. I would second the suggestion that you go to a quick change.

Mc Master Carr or Grainger will have the tool holder.
Just look up a machine supply dealer. There a thousands of them across the country. They can tell you what you have and you can match the tool holder. You use it like a tool. just use it like a high speed tool or carbied tool.

You might find that they are very expnesive which they are. You might find another good brand cheaper so look into different tooling before you spend money on a new tool holder.

With that said go to the homemachinst.com. Someone there might be able to tell you what you have and they might have a good used tip holder.
You might find that the company has gone out of business. I was a tool and die maker in my other life. Carbide if fine for some things. You will need a good tool grinder and a slow speed carbide grinder to shape and sharpen your tool steel.
That is an art by itself to learn.
