I'm looking for some metal storage cabinets to tidy up the garage and get rid of my open shelves.

uline and global both have 48" x 24" x 78" cabinets that look like they would do the job. both are in the $450-$500 price range.

Do any of you have first hand experience with either of these? are they holding up well?

Any recommendations for other brands in this price range?

Thanks,

I got a good deal on some gladiator stuff and I like them so far. I've only been able to assemble the 4'x6' cabinets but from what I have seen so far they are pretty stout and look good too. I was worried I wouldn't like them because of the diamond plate pattern, but its a bit washed out or rounded I guess, and the gray is darker. Really digging them. I think they are in your price range so I thought I'd offer an alternative.

I have no experience with the brands you mentioned but someone on here has and I'm sure they will chime in.

Keep an eye on your local gov. auction sites.
With everything going to computerized storage there are all kinds of card and microfilm cabinets up for auction.
If you pay $100.00 you overbid.

Are you looking at this one:

They are good cabinets - we've got them all over the the shop. The only issue we have is that the latch mechanism gets loose over time and the rods fall out of the doors, but I think that is more from a 100 different people opening and closing the doors all day than anything thing else. For use in a home shop, they would serve you very well.

I forgot to mention that at the auction sites you can often get computer
server cabinets.
They are left over from server upgrades.

These are most often glass front doors and air sealed, on casters.
They often have the drawer slides and power strips still installed

Prices are stupidly low.
I have seen opening bids at $!.00 for qty 2

Yep, my suggestion too. I search GovDeals all the time. It's amazing what you find listed on there.

I don't have any personal experience with them but based on the descriptions and specs, the Uline and Global 48x24x78 cabinets look like really nice, heavy-duty cabinets (heavy-gauge metal, weight around 200 lbs., jumbo size, color choice, great reviews, etc.). I'm sure you would be happy with them. But do you need a heavy-duty cabinet with a 300 to 400 lbs. capacity for each shelf. I have the Sears red/black cabinets and shelf units. I've got them loaded down and they work fine. I've looked at the Gladiator cabinets mentioned earlier and they look like good cabinets. Sears, Lowe's, HD, Costco, Office Depot, Staples, etc. all have other brands of cabinets which you could look at and compare.

when I went looking I kept stopping at new age but they just seemed out of my price range. But I really liked them so I saved my $$$ a little long and bought them. Best thing I ever did love my new age pros pricey yes but well worth the $$. Oh and a good company to deal with my locker had a shelf that I could see writing under the powder coat they sent out replacement right away. I will be buying more and John (dirty lil fartaround) was nice to deal with. I highly recommend them

I keep looking for ways to set up the garage and make it nice without spending the $$$ on the newage, but the wife finally convinced me to stop being cheap and get the good stuff.

So i’m going to go with the newage pro 3.0

Thanks for the input

Thanks dude. I have a hard time matching the forum names with customers, but I remember the shelf. You pay enough for NewAge cabinets, your cabinets should be free of defects and any shipping damage. You should get what you paid for and be happy with the quality.

Can I steal this post for my thread?

I like the Whirlpool-Gladiator Premiere cabinets (welded, pre-built, powdercoated), I got them for my two-car garage/workshop. I don't need anything heavier-duty. I bought them from Sears, on-sale, and ended paying less-than 30% MSRP and I'm not arguing-about it. I believe the big-box stores also carry them.
