Looking for new vertical air compressor....deals?

Have a 20 gallon 31-year-old horizontal CH compressor that has served me well, but I need something bigger. I don't often run air tools but from time to time use die grinders and this one just can't keep up at all.

I'm thinking maybe a 60-gallon 5ish HP, can do 220V. Probably don't need industrial as it's not a daily use thing. Any base recommendations and/or good looking deals floating out there these days?

You buying new or not?

I have seen very nice 5HP 60 gallon sets on Craigslist and "LetGo" for about 1/2 of new, and 1/2 of that if you don't mind fixing them up a bit.

Keep an eye on craigslist and other classified/auction sites. Browse all sections of craigslist, not just tools. I found my 80gal tucked away in the CL arts and crafts section believe it or not.

That's a great deal on that Porter Cable - people on Craigslist are asking that much for 25-year old equivalents of that same unit.

I've been eyeing both and Porter Cable. 60 gal units. They are quite similar and in the same "sale price" range if you shop around. Same specs. 11.5 CFM@90 psi, 3.7 hp, 240 volts.

They seem like a good deal. Anything bigger starts to hit the $1000 mark.

I looked at some reviews for this compressor, less than steller reviews. And Porter Cable didn't want to stand behind their warranty.

You may want to set up a search and notification for CL so it will ping you when something comes up - the good compressor deals usually are gone within 24 hours.

And good advise above about looking in all of the for-sale sections on CL; I found my Quincy 325 in the "business" category and it had a really bad description as well, which is why most other people probably missed it.
