looking for obd2 scanner for laptop?

What scanning software for obd2 cars and truck is there to use on my labtop thats cheap? Mainly looking to just get codes. I seen one some where a while back that had building your own connector also but cant find it anymore.

Not sure about cheap software for a laptop, but if all you are looking to do is pull codes cheaply, and you have a smartphone, there's an app for that. I use my Andriod smartphone, the free app "Torque", and a cheap $20 bluetooth OBD2 adapter from Amazon. Does the job just fine (again, just a DIYer pulling codes).

There's also a $5 "pro" version of the app that seems to get good reviews.

Torque works great on domestic cars, and i like having it. It doesn't communicate with some Asian Imports though, like my Nissan Altima and Subaru Forester. They are working on getting the protocols done though.

OP, you might be thinking of Auto Enginuity. I have the Ford package for use on my PowerStroke, and it works well.

My F250 was one of a few trucks that was used for the original development of the AE Powerstoke software product.

Ain't cheap but good stuff.

I also used Auto Enginuity as well. It's a bit pricey but worth having.
