Looking for outside patio material ideas besides TechBloc

Like the title says, I'm looking for new, different, interesting materials to use for an outside living space besides TechBloc or pavers. It will be some type of patio area with an additional space for a fire pit.

I've worked with all sorts of stone for years, but I'm not too current on new materials that are being offered now.

I'm intrigued by the idea of packed gravel in some type of contained space (metal edging, etc.), but it seems like it may end up being a bigger mess then it's worth.

Any ideas, other websites, thoughts, opinions are welcomed.

I love blue stone, easy to work with and looks better than the generic paver style, I have around $70K worth of it down, I can send some pics if you like..
