looking for pneumatic/electric reciprocating tool that accepts hand files

Hi all,

More than once I could've used a tool that either has a chuck or that is designed to hold a hand file (especially a rat-tail), to get the job done.

I have die grinders etc, so I am not looking for those. And I saw pneumatic air filers, but those are the little guys.

So does anyone make a tool like this that simply does not spin, and just reciprocates?

Does it have to use a standard file? This attachment system uses your standard reciprocating saw, or one of those newer compact ones such as the M12 Hackzall. I have a cornwell air saw that comes with the files. They're mini files but work well.

The problem with that is that hand files are not supposed to be reciprocated; they're supposed to be pushed only.

I disagree with this. Files, regardless of cut, only cut in one direction.

I decided best thing to do is pick up a swapmeet/yard sale recip saw, and just weld a damn chuck on it. Best bang for the buck.

double cut means the file has two rows of teeth. files only cut in one direction, and trying to cut with them in the wrong direction can ruin the file.

If you do machine shop work, this company has a set of castings you can turn into a 'die filer,' which will allow you to use a rotary tool to create the linear filing motion.
