Hi everyone, I joined this forum a while back when i bought my first house. Raised ranch - 2car garage. It was a forclosure and a dump. Bought it when i was 25, did it all with help from this forum. The only thing farmed out was some electrical. I did the kitchen, baths, new boiler, you name it. even tore out the walls from damage and wallpaper and reinsulated while i was there. It has been a big project and my turn for the big garage is right around the corner :D

I'm looking for a pole barn builder in my area. I live in NY, Putnam County. Its south-eastern NY.

I have checked with my town, I have normal setback limitations and a height limit of 20'. I can cover 20% of my lot, of which is just over an acre. The way the house is situated, i have a lot of room. The side where the garage will go is 118' from the house to the line. I even have a nice flat spot right where it will go! I'm looking to go 26 or 28 deep and 36-40 wide. essentially a large 3 car. High enough for lifts, maybe a combo of 10' walls with scissor trusses where the lifts would be and storage trusses over the rest, just to get rid of some clutter.

Ant recommendations, advice and experiences would be great. And thank you in advance.

Check out diypolebarns.com If they dont serve your area use their quote to get a cheaper building in your area. Morton is the cadillac of pole barns. But i really like Graber post buildings they are sold all over, DIY pole barns is a sales dealer for them. Diy has a online instant quote so you can price options easy. http://www.graberpost.com/ http://www.diypolebarns.com/ Also you could build it yourself and save alot. Thats what i did on my 36x56x14h.

I've seen the big name buildings built and man they are super nice. Our local Auto paint supply is a Morton. I would jump on having one of them, the cost is just the issue. I hope to hear about someone more local. Im gonna hit some local lumber yards next week and see if i get a recommendation.

As far as building it myself, i plan on having the shell built and finishing myself. I have a mason freind lined up for the slab, and another for elect.

Thanks!

I just had a 36x48 morton building built. I am very pleased with the building quality and construction! I have a thread on here if you search for it.

Figure out how far you can go between posts. I had originally planned and was quoted on a 30x40 pole barn. Then I realized I could go 12 feet between posts and I had the room for it. I got another quote to do it 30x48 instead; there were the same number of posts, trusses and holes to dig. They only needed a little longer girts a little more sheet metal and a few more yards of concrete. It only ended up costing $500 extra. Money well spent for an extra 240 square feet and I was able to put wider doors in; I've got two 10x10s. I'm not sure what the requirements and codes are up there, obviously there are snow loads to consider but that's my tip for you. Good luck.

Try conestoga, also in pa. They were by far the lowest bid when I was looking. Amish/ Mennonite workers. Also try Martin construction, heard great things about them as well.

Diypolebarns all the way. Great to work with and they handle New York.
They can also install if you choose that option. If you did all the work on the house you have skills needed for a polebarn but the motivation, well I can understand that part.
Also DIY will be tax free and no delivery charge. Great materials too!
