Where do you find bags? Are they made for just some brands and sizes within the brand? Would bags reduce the filter cleaning interval?

Should have bags wherever they sell vacuums, got mine at Home Depot.
Bag will reduce the filter cleaning to ZERO, unless the bag breaks.

A bag stopped drywall and concrete dust for me.

All the recommendations for Rigid has got me looking at them now. This seems like the one that would work for me. Double the cost of the HF one but has a lifetime warranty, better accessories and other things.

Probably half a quiet as the HF one too, most annoying part about HF junk is its always loud.

Have you considered buying a small vacuum and putting it on one of these carts? Adding casters would make it mobile.

With a Dust Deputy you don't need a large vacuum because everything goes into the bucket. Check out the 5 HP Ridgid WD4070. It's highly-rated and reasonably-quiet. It could be removed from the cart and being small would be convenient to use when cleaning your car. Total cost = $154 plus tax.

Are these carts for sale or are there plans for one?

If you Google "Dust Deputy Cart," you'll see many different carts which people have built.

The first cart I remember seeing was in ShopNotes magazine, issue No.109. Here's a pdf of this issue. The article about the cart (including dimensioned drawings) begins on page 36.

You can purchase plans for the cart from Woodsmith. There is also a video.

Two items:

Running that Rigid on it's side (in the Dust Deputy cart) means the fluid ball (that floats up in the filter cage) will not block fluid from the motor if it fills up. Not an issue if you're using it 100% as a dry vac.

I would 100% recommend the Dust Deputy setup for a shop.

This is the best shop vac I've ever owned..I have one in my personal shop and one in our commercial site:

I use the washable filters with it so running costs are super low.

It relatively quiet, works great in my shop dust collection system, standalone, and as a blower to clean off our composite deck. It's also 179CFM, so a good match for a standard Dust Deputy. Using two DDs in parallel with that vac is the perfect setup to maintain suction power.

Whatever you do, don't buy the POS brand I bought years and years ago - and then quit making them.

And when I say "quit making them", I mean they quit making the filters as well! Can't buy the filters any more and haven't for years. So I ended up making my own out of some screen material and paper towels.

A$$holes.

I'm going to replace mine with a Ridgid.

This is a nice machine, I picked up one to use for detailing and it's great. Picked up the optional longer orange hose to go with it and it's better quality and more flexible than the one that comes with the vacuum.

When I bought my Craftsman Shop Vac, about 42 years ago, lifetime warranties did, to the best of my recollection, not exist.

I am glad I have not needed one yet.

While I have no personal experience with them the Karcher WD5/P. The fellow who suggested it says it need a Fein or Festool hose to work best with tools, but he has had it in his woodshed for a few years and likes it a lot. Quieter than the Ridgid. When my 20 yr old Fein gave out I bought the Ridgid. Yes it works but is loud and difficult to store. Wish I had gotten a smaller unit. The only thing I can do to quiet down the vac is to turn on the air compressor. Metabo make good vacs as well.

I initially talked myself into a large Ridgid 12 gallon unit with the most hp and cfm, but then realized that most of the time I need something small and portable. I typically just use it on cars, and small jobs in the garage and house. So I bought the small 5 gallon unit with the car cleaning kit and like it so far. It was supposed to come with the fine dust (blue colored) filter, but there was a sticker on the box stating "due to covid 19 the blue filter was out of stock, so the swapped for the white filter and dust bag". Looking forward to simply tossing the full bag and replacing, vs scraping all the **** out of the inside of the vac.

In the future when/if I get more into wood working I plan on getting the larger unit and a dust deputy, but it will more then likely be stationary so I might just look at getting a dust collector instead of shop vac.

I have a Ridgid unit. It's at least 15 years old. Biggest complaint is that it's not quiet, but I've put it through hell and it's still running...

Bought mine from HD several years ago 129.00 with a SS tank & HEPA filter, that said 1.5 hp Ultra Quiet. How true it is and still use it today.... same filter too
Brand is Shop Vac if I remember correctly. .
My prior was a Craftsman that caused me to wear hearing aids but alot less $$ too, not counting the hearing aids ;>/
Quiet is the name of the game in shop vac!!
