Looking for Snap on toolbox slides

Hey all, so I recently bought a kr557 and kr537.

However, simply put, I didn’t look too closely at the slide condition (I thought they are just badly gummed up)

All told, I need

8x 8-1257 and 8x 8-267

I might be able to salvage some more 1257s (3 or 4) but the 267s are mostly fubared.

Does anyone have a source for these? I got off the phone with Snap-on and since I’m not the original owner and I’m not a “professional”, I’m looking at a steep replacement cost to Canada.

Anyone have a lead on these, even if non OEM or techniques to straighten a number of these which were clearly overloaded and splitting on the weld/rivet?

Anyone ever make some?

Thanks!

You can re-tack them. Unless the edges are cracked they're often salvageable.

Post pictures up. Usually you can scrub them with a brush and motor oil, then a toothbrush and motor oil to get them decent. Clean with brake clean, then evap-o-rust or similar. Clearcoat at the end; I lube mine with candle wax, worked pretty well.

Snap-on will warranty them.

I got one box worth warrantied, I've refurbed the other 3 friction slide boxes I've got. If snap-on will warranty them, by all means get them. Also consider paying to replace them if they won't warranty them. They still had brand new ones when I needed them a few years back.

Is there any magic words to get them warrantied? Is was made pretty clear when going through email that since I was not the original owner, I would need to purchase replacements. I’m not willing to lie, but if the option is available, I’d certainly go for it.

Unfortunately they have every right to deny you warranty.

I don’t warranty much through SO corporate but if you have a small request and a good attitude on the phone you might get lucky. They have sent me replacements every single time no questions asked. It’s easy to play hard to get via email/live chat but a phone call can be different.

I’d say it’s worth a well natured call and try your luck.

I reassessed the 1257s and realized I was being too picky on a number of them

Here’s the 267s

The remaining 3 1257s weren’t made well and the two sides weren’t lined up.

Prices I was hearing was about $10 cad each for the 1257s and $14 cad for the 267s.

Given I’m feeling a bit better about some of them, I may try some kind words on the phone and failing that, just buy the ones I need.

They still sell slides for those?

Yep, it took a bit of back and forth with email support to get the part numbers, but it wasn’t too bad to find. The main difficulty is the part numbers changed and they no longer had the original numbers listed.

Agreed. I have an excellent local route guy that I buy my personal tools from. He has offered many times to cover the screw ups of SO industrial for my work, even at the government rate we get them for.

For those that don’t have their own SO contact, a cheery call is a good start.

Your link is dead for me. Yes, snap-on can deny you if they please. I would clean/hammer/ bend everything as best you can, but the crummy ones on the thin drawers, and reassess the condition of all of them.

The best way to get parts warrantied with Snap On if you don't have a dealer is to call. Everytime I have called, they could nothave been nicer in helping me out.

Don't email, you will get the canned response. Call and explain what you need and they will do what they can to help you out.

Everytime I call regarding tool box parts, I get charged. I have gotten ratchet rebuild kits for free, but never tool box parts. Maybe my bad luck. I am buying tool boxes second hand though so in general I expect to pay for parts.

Being that they're still available for purchase from the manufacturer after all these years is amazing.

Sorry for the hijack but, I've got a Snappy top and bottom box from the '50s that I've been meaning to restore. Is it still possible to purchase the friction slides for a box that old?

Apologies, here’s a better link

These are the ones that are the worst and will probably buy replacements. I’m going to try brute force and maybe a touch of heat today on the ones that are only a little bend in one dimension.

I’m not completely surprised they directed me to pay, it’s that I’ve heard so many people get slides for free and some not. Probably a depends on the person on the phone and whether Canada vs the US

I wasn't able to find anything but I didn't call snap on. I thought for sure I was going to have to replace mine but after cleaning them really good I was able to bring back even the most damaged ones to serviceable condition. Don't forget to check ALL of the parts as well. Had one that wouldn't slide right no matter how straight it was. Ended up being the track inside the toolbox itself had some damage. Straightened that up and suddenly it worked again

Those don't look all that bad to me. I've salvaged worse. You may have to drill out the rivets to get them straight then replace or weld them back together. The only ones I have not been able to save are when the steel is split or worn through. Be sure you check the rails on the box and on the drawers before you put it back together. They often get bent and start the problem in the first place.
