Looking for sockets. Sunex, Tekton or GP duo?

So I'm looking to outfit myself with full socket set, no more mismatched set.

I would use chrome sockets more often than impact but those duo sockets seem sweet and have good reviews. But I see Tekton and Sunex are talked about too.

I think I can justify the duo sockets are they are dual purpose, but wonder if I can get Tekton or Sunex impact and chrome for the same price?

What y'all think?

I'd get whatever it 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2". 1/4&3/8 in shallow and deep and 1/2" in deep only.

Tektons and Sunex are excellent and I have both. The have an excellent warranty program. From what I've read here in GJ, GP Duos are great but you have to buy them from an authorized dealer else the warranty is void if the sockets break. Amazon is not an authorized GP dealer. I bought Tektons and Sunex from Amazon and had to warranty a Sunex impact socket. I told customer service I abused it and ask if I could just buy that socket. She told me to send her a photo of it and mailing address. 7 days later a new socket came in the mail, no charge. I believe some tool trucks are selling them as well.

I have heard about this alot lately on the forum. I have never directly contacted gp but I have always taken them to a authorized retailer and just got a replacement socket. no questions on where I bought it or receipt. I do have the duo sockets at home and I do like them.

I use Sunex daily and very happy with them. I've had issues w/ their swivel sockets but their regular sockets hold up great and keeps the budget intact.

I also use Sunex impact sockets with no issues. Comparable to my snap on impact sockets. Never used the duo, but would go with Sunex if I bought some. Sunex is also sold on tool trucks. A distributor in my area stopped carrying SK impacts because everyone bought Sunex. Here's a pic of Sunex and snap on. Sunex is on bottom.

I'm not sure how the gp duos would hold up in 1/2 drive. I've split a 13mm 3/8 dr with a cordless impact. They're great sockets, but I prefer my setup of sunex 1/2 dr impacts complemented by a full 3/8 duo set for the more common work. I really just don't trust the duo sockets enough to use them on a real impact every day.

I am the same way, I use the duo in 3/8 and use standard gp impacts for 1/2 drive impacts

You can't go wrong with Sunex or Tekton impacts. Both have held up for me, and I've used them HARD. I have a few random GP sockets. They're pretty good, buddy of mine has GP duo sockets and he uses them real hard and they have held up. But if you break one, you might have issues getting a replacement. We have an authorized GP distributor here in town, and they're still a pain to get replacements.

I was about to buy the tekton 1/4" and 3/8" set until somebody posted a deal on gearwrench sets where you bought the full 3/8 set and got the full 1/4" set for free.. One was an 84 tooth ratchet set and one was the 120 tooth. It's was an excellent buy for the money.

Edit-

The deal is still active.. It's $104 for both sets. Check out my old thread for pics.

Thanks man. Thats a killer deal for chromes.. And its a pretty complete kit too? I guess Id get a 1/2" impact set and that should cover me for sizes...

Im wondering what the difference is between the set here:

http://www.ntxtools.com/network-tool-warehouse/KDT-80550F.html

Or these separately:
80314D
80718

Am I missing a lot more buying the bogo kit? Or am I missing something important/common?

Very happy with the sunex impacts. Set arrived with a damaged 3/8 17mm (body of socket had a chip somehow). One call and they sent me a new one asap.

Sunex is amazing value for money. If I need anything impact, they're my first choice, brand I look to. Good warranty, but for standard sockets, you probably won't need it unless you use them hard, daily, for a long time.

EDIT: I've worn out more snap-on, cornwell, matco, mac USA made impacts, than sunex.

I had the same question about a month ago, as there are so many more offerings in the USA. I was gonna get the GP duos but someone on here said that rust might be a problem as I live in the rust belt. I ended up buying Proto. The only reason I went with Proto was because Williams USA doesn't have a complete SAE set in 12pt chrome that I needed, and I got a super good deal on ebay on bnew Proto sets.

Next time I'm getting anything metric, you can be sure I'm getting Williams. If COO is not a problem for you, Tekton is probably the way to go.

As for impacts, I hear nothing but praises for Sunex, Grey Pneumatic and Williams from friends, colleagues, and family. No first hand experience though as I've never used impacts at work.

Really it's a matter of finding deals brand new or 2nd hand, and easy warranty for your area. Here are some awesome brands to choose from, for chrome sockets (in no particular order):

Williams
Proto
Tekton
Gearwrench
Toptul
Carlyle
SK

Also, I'm pretty sure I'm missing out on some other brands. But those are the ones off the top of my head.

I'm also looking to purchase regular and impact. I'm going with Sunex impacts. How is the construction , fit and finish on the Williams Sae & Metric chrome sockets.
