Looking for sockets with knurling

I'm looking to get a new socket set. I'd really like a set that has some sort of grip on the outside to make it easier to pull them off and that make it easier to hand tighter a nut without the socket wrench.

I believe this is called knurling.

I know that Sonic sockets have this, but was interested in something cheaper.

Yes I know that some socket wrenches have a quick release button to make it easier to remove the socket, but I'd still like some sockets with the grip.

Anyone know of a brand or place to get these?

Thanks.

lots do to be honest .
Best ones to handle have half satin finish and the knuringl band . some of cheaper sockets actually better in this area, I had taiwan sockets sold in on-rail sets years ago with really nice half satin and knurling band, real pleasure to use and proved superb sockets all round .

I only know of German brands that have this like mentioned above although my snap on metric sockets do have kneeling that work great for finger spinning. Another option is to get s spinner adapter that goes on the ratchet before the socket they are great I have the Mac and Bluepoint versions.

Hazet and Gedore knurling is fantastic. Check out Carlyle tools (Napa), their metric sockets have decent knurling too.

Maybe Koken? They have nice knurling on the extensions... Not sure about the sockets.

As others have mentioned, Hazet and Gedore have really good knurling. Love mine. Stahlwille does as well, although more expensive than Gedore or Hazet.

Slightly cheaper though, Bahco has knurling, although not as good as the two German brands

Cheaper still, Gearwrench does on some of theirs.

My 1/4" Gearwrench sockets only have knurking on the metrics. Deep and shallow. The only other sockets I own that have knurking are a vintage set of METEOR. The only size I have grip issues with is 1/4". Therefor, I use a combo of Snap On quick release ratchet, stubby extensions or a thumb wheel adapter.

Ha! I was doing this with my new 1/4" set today; I needed 3 different sizes, so I stuck each one on an extension to make them easier to pick up and switch.

No knurling, but the color-coded sockets from HF are pretty cool.

My Wera sockets have nice knurling on the edge that really lets you turn it with your fingers.

My gearwrench semi deep sets both have knurling on them and they're some of my most used sockets at home.

I also was looking and some of my 1/4" craftsman deeps have knurling but its so little I don't think it would help much

Gearwrench only puts knurling on the base of their metric chrome sockets (shallow, semi deep, & deep lengths).

OEM tools available at mobiledistributorsupply.com has knurling in the middle of their sockets. single knurling for SAE and double knurling for metric. If you ask me, I think they are the same as Sonic Tools for a lot less coin. taiwan made. they also have a very nice satin finish. The OEM sockets are also smaller at the base the the socket end on larger sizes to aid in socket removal from drive tools.

Carlyle tools available from NAPA also has knurling only on their chrome metric sockets along with some really nice chrome.

Good luck in your quest

Possibly the Wera has the most aggressive knurling from all followed by Hazet and Gedore. Stahlwille is mostly cosmetic.

Best fitment of all is Hazet and Stahlwille.

Stahlwille is very thin wall. I have the 1/4 and 3/8 set and the wall is the same all the way to 14mm.

Hazet best overall but Stahlwille better for tight clearances.

Buy from Europe and send to US is much cheaper.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I have a lot of choices. I'm leaning towards the oemtools ones at the knurling looks good, they are easier to find and the price is good.

Here's a link to Snap-on ratchets with quick release. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119805

They put a man on the moon, but it wasn't until 2014 that they started making their normal ratchet lineup with QR buttons. I have yet to have run into a situation where the button kept me from sticking the ratchet into a tight place in an automobile. I work on Japanese cars.

I bought a Snap-on 3/8" ratchet with QR in 1986. Got a 1/2" drive QR about the same time.
