See that ugly brown support column in the photo? I know I can't get rid of it so I'm trying to come up with some ideas for what I can do with it. Can it be made to look like something it isn't? Can it be decorated in some way to fit the rest of the theme in the garage? Let your imagination run wild and give me some ideas!

Hey! Your car's in Pole Position. ba-da-bump

Try painting it to match one of your banners, ie Red with white Winston lettering running down it...

I've seen heavy rope wrapped around columns in a marine-themed restaurant. They just took one long piece and started at the base of the column.

How about using stainless braided hose in a garage?

All the ideas suggested are good, including the stripper, but I'm a sucker for old gas pumps.

Maybe try painting it with a checkerd flag design or something in the race theme.

I like the idea to frame it in than drywall and texture it. If you do, just keep the drywall a few inches off the ground so water won't damage the finish. You can use plastic/synthetic paintable trim to finish out the bottom.

On the stripper note, I also like this idea. Paint it gold or the closest thing to polished brass you can find. Tell the old lady it's a "fire" pole. We did that while finishing my neighbors basement.

about spit my coffee out..........

how bout' putting it use?
run some electrical conduit down it with a 4 plug 115 VAC outlet (or a 2 plug with a switch for something), route a hard aircompressor line with small inline regulator/filter down along side the electrical, mount your fire ext. to it, or just some stickers/decals (in your garage theme) could jazz it up alittle also......
