I'm looking for a set of satin finish combination wrenches. I like the Gedore wrenches, but they just seem a bit to pricey to justify. Who else makes similar satin finish wrenches? Beta?

Cripe has Kobalt/KD/Allen USA satin wrenches. Comparable to craftsman quality.

This. Cripe also has Armstrong satin wrenches that are the same. Just have to take a minute and add them to your cart separately.

Beta makes satin wrenches and are high quality. And if you put value in country of origin. They are still made in Italy. Not Taiwan or China

My work metric wrenches are almost exclusively Toptul satin finish. The finish is gorgeous. Even compared to the new Hazet a co-worker just bought and some older Heyco stuff I own. The Beta wrenches are very nice but don't have the same silky smooth feeling the Toptul stuff.

My SAE drawer is mostly polished Snap-on but I have Williams satin finish SAE that is crude in comparison to the toptul, but very serviceable like older Proto stuff. The new USA blackhawk satin finish I recently bought and sold reminded me of 80's import quality. It felt terrible in my hand. It was like handling a metal microfiber cloth. That feeling of a million fibers snagging my skin. I used them once and put them in the classifieds.

I try to use satin finish tools at work because everyone else uses full polish and I can spot mine from across the room. I have yet to lose a tool yet!

Note: This is just comparing surface finish, not overall tool quality. I don't want to get flamed for suggesting that these good ol' USA brands are lesser tools than the imports.

I'm sure I will catch some flack for this, but Stanley makes an inexpensive set in a satin finish, and I have a set that I have beat to hell and they still look brand new. I think I paid $30 for a set at Walmart. I prefer my Craftsman for the most part, but if you want a surprisingly good set for a low price I recommend the Stanleys.

Thanks for the replies. Where would I find the best prices on Williams, Wright, and Beta sets?

Why not enjoy the best of both worlds and chemically etch your snap-on wrenches?

Here are some chemical solutions for etching chrome:

Concentrations Etchants Rate Temperature/Other
2 : 3 : 12 KMnO4 : NaOH : H2O
3 : 1 H2O : H2O2
concentrated and dilute HCl
3 : 1 HCl : H2O2
2 : 1 FeCl : HCl
Cyantek CR-7s (Perchloric based) 7 min/micron (24A/s new)
1 : 1 HCl : glycerine 12min/micron after depassivation
1 : 3 [50gNaOH+100mlH2O] : [30g K3Fe(CN)6+100mlH2O] 1hr/micron

and yes, I am joking :lol_hitti

Satin finished Toptul wrenches are as nice as I've seen from any other maker. You can purchase Toptul from dnschmidt, who's a member here. He sells on ebay, has good prices and very good service. Toptul is currently one of the best values in tools. Really great for what you'll pay for them.

I'd go for Toptul... The Wright wrenches have no offset and I can't stand that.

Depending on my mood when ordered (and SAE or metric) but if I were buying wrenches with satin finish I'd get Wright, Hazet, ar Toptul (more or less in order).

What wrench do you have with zero offset? Below is a Wright 9/16" wrench...taken right out of their catalog.

I own a few Wright wrenches... the smallest, a 1/4 wrench, has a very pronounced offset... similar to the SnapOn set it completed. The larger wrenches, 20mm and up, do have a slight offset... I misspoke. But not as pronounced as my SnapOns or Super Combos... maybe it's a trick of the eye, I don't know... but I prefer my other wrenches.

I have a few wrightgrip satin SAE combination wrenches and the boxed ends have very little bend or offset to them. In fact the 9/16 is pretty close to zero offset. The boxed end angle isn't uniform like my polished metric wrightgrips.
