Shops will often highball a quote when they don't know you and it is mobile. Snap some shots of what you want to do with a map of where you are compared to them, then GO BY their shop and ask them what they might charge you. Get to know them but expect to pay $75 to $150 minimum if they come out. If that is first born prices then better learn to weld. Our welder made many trips to the house during a resto. I made sure it was on their convenience first and not mine. The work they did was superb and frankly cost me less than I could have done it myself. I would recommend them to anyone in the Sacramento California area. We made a long term relationship and I never squawked on prices. They took an interest in the resto and many times the work they did they did not even charge me for because maybe the last job was so easy. Also make sure the work area is clear for them and that safety hazards are addressed. Don't expect someone to weld an inch from a gasoline line. Above all, don't hire a cheap welder cause he/she is cheap. Hire the best and pay them. You will get more than your money's worth.

Take a class or two at Sutton Garten down town, I've heard they are pretty good.

There must be a dozen race shops in Indy that can do that... On safety critical things I never cheap out.
