I've got a 100 foot air hose on a reel in the shop but am looking for a source for a shorter (25') air hose to use with the compressor while working in the garage.

Anyone know of a source for a good quality air hose that is 25' in length?

thanks

Buy a quality air hose, instead of those cheap Chinese HF ones. I got a 50' x 3/8" rubber Goodyear air hose a few days ago for $50. I have no doubt they will last many years to come. I plan on putting it in a CordPro XL reel. Its replacing a cheapo PVC 50' air hose that I got at lowes for $15.

I think the HF ones are Good Year hose, just with cheaper couplings. Good Year isn't the high quality it used to be in the 80's, but still pretty good. I am with jeepkj02 on staying away from the pvc.

I agree on goodyear hose not being what it once was. I didnt realize until a few months ago that goodyear doesnt even own goodyear hoses anymore. It was spun off, sold to some company owned by The Carlyle Group (yuck), and licenses the goodyear name.

What is the 'best' rubber hose?

I went thorugh this pain several months back. Even the "Black" Goodyear hose from HF was falling apart after only a year. Then I read a few posts and received some good advice. I found that for some reason the "Red" Goodyear hose sold by HF holds up much better than any of the others.

In fact many pro shops will only purchase the red hose. Must be a different rubber compound than the black hose.

I replaced all the black hose in my shop and garage and have been a "Happy Camper" ever since. The red hose is a bit more expensive, but it's often on sale -- so buy a 25ft hose and test it out. I have no complaints.

EDIT: Here is the thread where I showed what the Black Goodyear hose looked like after less than a year of use.

The coupling is the most important part of the air hose. If you buy the $20 rubber air hose and cut off the coupling and replace them with some decent ones, you'll probably be in the $50 range. So save yourself the hassle and stay away from the cheaper HF ones.

You could buy rubber air hose in bulb (no couplings), and cut it to your desired length, and add your own coupling. The couplings on the Goodyear air hose I bought was crimped on, looks very strong. Haven't had the chance to use it yet.

One other thought - even if you think 25' will cover your needs, get a 50'. By the time your hose goes across the floor, around a back tire, up the side of the car, etc.... 25' is gone.

Not a real big price difference, so for a few bucks more....

I've had good luck with hose from eaton compresor. Gotta pay shipping to get it though. I think they are warrantied for a year.

Wow - that was bad. Looked "dry", almost like a tire that's all weather checked and dry-rotted on the sidewall. Was that hose stored in the sun / by a window?

...and I gotta ask - at the old shop, the guys had red, black, and GREEN air hoses in use. Any idea where green falls in the quality pecking order?

Well it certainly was dry, but I never stored the hose in the sun. I did use it outside when the weather was nice in order to keep bodyfiller dust out of the garage. Like I said, less than a year of use and the two hoses just fell apart -- literally.

I don't know about the other colors, but the advice I was given by other GJ members was excellent. I bought the red hose and have not had a single problem. It remains pliable and flexible even on the coldest days.

Ten years of semi-regular use on the Goodyear red and no problems but it is the stuff of ten years ago?

We use the Goodyear Wingfoot branded red hose at work, they buy it in 1000 ft reels and we make up what we need using Foster air couplings. The stuff is indestructable. We do damage it rolling heavy things with hard casters over it, snagging it and stretching it like a bungee cord, etc., so we are constantly making new hoses, but for all practical purposes, it is the best hose you will ever encounter.

i've been using HF hoses for at least ten years without any problems... besides for the price of them, you can just replace them if needed.. at the rate i'm going i'll never spend $50.00 in my life time on hoses...
