Well if people are refusing to post "hot deals" they find because of all the "extra" work involved with creating a new thread, that just seems kind of lazy to me.

I looked in the new section... and didn't see any hot deals you posted... i must have looked in the wrong spot, can you direct them to me?

As time went by though, I grew more in favor of the new format and welcomed it once it arrived. I find it to be far more beneficial and much easier to wade through deals that I may or may not be interested in.

But, in my opinion, this new format is better because now I don't have to wade through 4 pages of chatter to see the next deal. I simply open a thread b/c the deal looks promising or intriguing and move onto the next thread.

To each their own.

riiiiiiiiighhht .... that's it

but we are too lazy to post the details for you to look at

i get it

Are you people serious with the fewer amount of deals? There are 135 individual threads in the 38 days that the section has been opened. That's an average of 3.5 deals EVERY DAY! Now, I don't know about you but the Hot Deals Thread was starting to go dry for a while. Days would go by without a single deal posted, just useless chatter. At the most, I would see 1-2 new deals a day in the thread and the rest would be useless chatter. As more deals were posted, confusion would follow followed by more comments and wasted time sifting through "hey, I got my ratchets today! They're great!" and then "Really, which one's did you get?" followed by "Damn, I wish I would have got those!" and then the "Yea, they normally go on-sale at this time of year, yada yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada, "

I don't think people are posting less because they don't like it, I think it's more that it's not in your face as much anymore. I keep forgetting its down the screen a bit, actually it's right off the bottom, so I don't see it unless I scroll down there. Before, it would pop up in the main forums all the time, so it was more visible

Well if people are refusing to post "hot deals" they find because of all the "extra" work involved with creating a new thread, that just seems kind of lazy to me. I personally find the new format better. At various times when it was discussed before the change, I was on the fence and could see the pros/cons of each.

As time went by though, I grew more in favor of the new format and welcomed it once it arrived. I find it to be far more beneficial and much easier to wade through deals that I may or may not be interested in.

Mindless chatter about deals is going to happen, regardless of how many rules are put into place...it's just far too difficult to enforce. But, in my opinion, this new format is better because now I don't have to wade through 4 pages of chatter to see the next deal. I simply open a thread b/c the deal looks promising or intriguing and move onto the next thread.

To each their own.

Isn't complaining and not viewing the thread because of extra posts just as lazy if not more so? You cannot deny there are much less deals posted now than there was before.

From the forum you can see every deal and while that is nice, there is way less deals being posted. I would come home from work and have to go back ten pages in the thread to see all the deals. Now we're lucky to get a couple a week.

It was a pointless change. No one complained about it in the thread so where did all this distaste for a thread come from?

Someone said change is good? Ok, Mr. President.

Oh, so helping out fellow members is a bad thing? There are FAR less deals now than in the thread. I don't get how people can complain about having to scroll past some posts about deals. God forbid they just wanted to say their order was good and others should get it as well.

A couple of hot deals a week? We're doing about 25 a week by my calculations.

People complained plenty in the thread but it fell on deaf ears. Ryan doesn't have time to read all the posts in the Hot Deals thread so people voiced their complaints in other areas. Here are just a few threads that I found on the subject:

7/13/11 Poll: http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109256
8/25/11 Section Request: http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=114804
5/17/12 Poll: http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150469
2/17/12 Section Request: http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=138487

Each deal was it's own topic. Deal feedback is great but it needs to be organized. If I have no interest in another set of chisels, why be subjected to sifting through it for a week straight?

The cool thing about the internet is that you aren't subjected to anything on it. You can click on things through your own free will, but you're never FORCED to do anything. :spit:

I like the new setup. It took a little while to get used to the change but now I find it better organized and easier to find deals. It really doesn't take any longer to get into the forum than it was to find the thread.

Thanks Ryan for being open to trying something new. Hopefully it works out in the long run!

You must not have been very active in the other thread. There were several posted each day and much better deals. A lot of the ones being posted are select or specialty items versus practical deals that everyone could use in the old thread. When certain items were in heavy discussion separate threads were made. It's ridiculous that people complain about having to scroll a few extra times.

Not a fan of the new format but it sure would be more useful to me if the hot deals link was posted right under the sticky's link in general tool disussion. I think that would make for easier navigation. Just my opinion.

When I find hot deals, I post them. In the old thread, I had plenty. With the new format, I haven't posted any b/c I haven't run across any. If and when I do, I'll post them just as I have in the past. Contrary to belief, I have a life outside of looking for hot deals to post. What's so hard to figure out about that smart guy?

well... "smart guy", you were the one who was calling people lazy. (yet you had not posts)

funny isn't it... people are lazy for not posting or posting to your liking.... and by implication of your post above... not only are they lazy, the mere fact they are posting means they "don't have a life outside of posting hot deals"

yet for someone who doesn't have any time to find and post deals, you have time to flip through them and look to benefit from the deals and criticize those who "are too lazy too post".

If that wasn't bad enough, you tell us your time is too valuable or I guess more important in value than our time and insult those who you are benefiting from by implying they have no life :dunno: :

And that my friend, highlights the mindset why I don't post any hot deals anymore - ps - it's not because I'm lazy, I guess it's as you say, I must have developed a life outside of posting hot deals. :lol_hitti

By the way... don't take what I'm saying too seriously - the point being, those who are posting have earned the right to criticize and make the constructive changes... all others... are just the peanut gallery - when they lead by example.... I'll follow, until then, they should just be quiet and watch the show.

Why are your feathers so ruffled? And I stated that it "seems" lazy, which is an opinion of mine. You seem to be the type that your opinion or viewpoint is fact.

And the beauty of the forum, is that everyone is privy to post, regardless of whether or not they've posted in the new format or not, this is after all a forum for discussion and exchange.

But, by your own logic, because I haven't posted in the new format, I'm not entitled to post my opinion...mmkay.

And again, if anyone takes my stating that the actions seem lazy, to heart, then they're entirely too sensitive.

And again, through your own logic, it seems that it is my duty to take time out of the day to search for hot deals and post them?

I can tell any type of discussion with you will go nowhere, since your entire basis for rebuttal in the first place, is based off the fact that your opinion doesn't line up with mine.

So again, don't get your feathers so ruffled.

ya ya ya.... feathers aren't ruffled

like i said... don't take my post too seriously

point is... post more deals, criticize less

imagine that, if everyone took the time to find and post deals, there would be no comments about the lack of deals etc :willy_nil

What about PM notification? I am on a smart phone so some things are a bit different. It would be nice to be notified only when a Hot Deal is posted, then maybe another thread for The Deals Discussion thread.

Where is all the Father's day deals? Was hoping for big Kobalt mechanic set from Lowes, but looks like the deals this year aren't very good.
