Hopefully not too dumb a question, but what type of tool do I need to remove these? There seem to many types of snap-ring pliers. Are these even called "snap rings"? Thanks!

I got these at sears. I think they are Lisle brand. Good for the first pic, not sure about the clip on the caster.

Are they snap rings? Spring type snap rings weren't invented until the early 1900s. I've had a couple older things in the past that had a mild steel ring bent or formed into place. Once you expand them, they stay expanded. It is like the horseshoe clip that you squeeze into place to attach the parking brake arm to a brake shoe on drum brakes. Usually you bend them open with a small pry bar or chisel, or an old junk screwdriver

If that is what they are, you will probably want to replace them with snap rings when you put everything back together.

I have always referred to them as lock rings and the Craftsman version works pretty well on them. ...that is where I got the name because Sears refers to them as long ring pliers.

I have found with those old lock rings the really don't have much spring in them left. I usually find this in floor jacks. I suppose you can replace them with an e-clip or snap ring but I usually throw the old ones on there and use a channellock or my knipex cobras to bend the clip back onto the shaft it belongs. The problem with new e-clips or snap rings is they always seem to be thinner than the original lock rings.

The next step will be locating good replacement clips since I'm expecting several will not be reusable. I will reach out to HiBall and any other of the hydraulic jack Buddhas here

There are some pump clips that are similar at Lazzars:

I think if you pull some diagrams of jacks you can get the actual part number and search on that. Of course, there are probably a bunch of other places online that will have clips.
