If you need more do a Google image search, and go in the back door for more. Have found that to be the most productive way of routing out info for projects.

thats where I found the picture. the link was hidden for me. heres the pic from the linked catalog this it Precision Industrial Tool Supply Inc Dayton page 21
funny, I was a toolmaker in Cincinnati, I wonder if its the exact one I had? I would still like to build it myself though. I will keep looking for plans.

Plans? You have the picture, dimensions and a pretty good description. It is basically frame and panel construction with a few drawers...all pretty basic.

this one looks exactly like the one I had, same wood grain and center pull out style. I finished it in a few coats of urethane as my first work there, along with piping my own airlines and mounting the air hose reel on the wall. If it had a 1" x 20" x 16" steel bench plate recovered from a scrap mold and ground smooth on a big surface grinder I would be home.

Not sure what they mean by a "bias Lock joint" but if you want to get fancy you could use a dovetail where the rails meet the legs or a half width tennon (where two rails meet on a leg) and peg them.

I'm sorry that I don't particularly have any answers for you, but I was interested in why that bench is specific to tool makers (what do you do that is special/works better with a bench of that configuration that a standard woodworking bench or other bench does not work quite as well? (you stand/sit/work on small metal objects/need lots of tools readily available...etc.)

for me it is specific because it is the bench I got when I started my apprenticeship. What I liked about it is you can sit all day polishing cavities or you can stand in front of it and use the top or the vise for close work with small parts and the height is right for both. I had a bar stool height chair and I would rest my feet inside the center section. I mounted a brand new machinists vise on the left above the drawers after I urethaned the bare bench. On the one I am designing I increased the center area a little bit, I remembered I didnt use the drawers mch but I did sometimes get cramped with my legs in the center area. I was 25 then so I think I would be a lot more cramped these days.

I love the look of it, but for day to day use its way to small of a work area once you load your boxes on it. Is it going to be your only bench or more of a statement piece?
That being said,I'm not bashing I really like it and am looking forward to build pics.

it is nostalgia, not really a statement. I have a big roll around workbench for the big stuff. this bench is for close work when you want to sit. It will be a place for precision boxes, likely I will add risers as you have done. I dont like having my mics and such in rattling around roll arounds, they need a stable storage

sorry to bring up an old thread here, I've been a Lurking as a guest for a while now, but your animation of the tool makers bench finally made me join the group. Did you ever come up with plans to build this bench? I was planning on scaling a photo, but your animation has sparked my interest. It looks awesome!
On a sidenote, I am a machinist here in Dayton also. I see that you served your apprenticeship nearby. We still have plenty of these benches around, but they are awfully expensive especially if you would like to buy them new.
