Just wanted to stop in and say hello. My name is Chris, live in Middle GA, and I repair electronics for a career, mainly avionics. I'm 35yo, spent 4 years between 2006-2010 in the Army as an Infantryman, with one deployment to Ramadi, Iraq in Jan 2007 - April 2008. My passion are my coondogs, and searching for Native American artifacts, but it's really my therapy to escape from everything else. Other hobbies are 4wd/offroad rigs and crawlers, building up my hunting truck Tatiana (funny story that's probably too crude for here) to be extremely capable, as well as reliable, trapping, working my land, and just tinkering with stuff like my grandfather did growing up. Like to be able to fix or build anything. Anyway, if any questions, just ask.

My grandfather and my great uncle, both retired from the Navy. I know my grandfather was in Korea, as well as Vietnam, and my uncle was in Vietnam. He actually retired from the Navy in San Diego, then went to work in the ship yards, where he went on to retire from as well, in 1998ish time frame. He sold his house in San Diego County, and moved back home to GA, to be able to comfortably live, and be with his family. Unfortunately my grandfather passed away in 2000, and my uncle in Nov 2011. Them two men could fix anything, and it was like being blessed with a second grandfather, after my grandfather passed, and he was there to fill that void for me. I was always helping my gpa fix or do something, and as I got older, my uncle Bobby continued teaching me so many cool skills. People today just don't have the same ability, and it's really bad in my age or younger. My current wife was amazed I picked up a welder, taught myself, welded up my winch bumper as the learning curve, even though I've welded very little. Her last husband couldn't even work power tools for the yard.

You happen to ever serve with Chief Gunter by any chance? He would have retired from the Navy in the late 70s I believe, then went to work in the yard.

Here's a neat picture of my grandfather Leonard Gunter on the left, and his brother (my great uncle) on the right. This was back when they got stationed on the same ship, and raise all kinds of heck. It was a different time back then, and folks were rough in rural America. The beards should give you an idea of how long ago this was, which is probably mid to late 60s?

I retired in 1981 and don’t recall a Chief Gunter, the Navy was and is full of Chiefs. I joined in April 1961, and made Chief in 1970. I served on Ammunition Ships, Guided Missile Destroyers and a Cruiser. In addition to Communication Stations and Naval Air Station Alameda Caifornia
