I can not get a 4 post as it would block the tool box from opening.
So stuck with what would fit
3245_castle_Drive_Garage.jpg

The above is not to scale but does have the measurements.
It is square with the exception of the inset that has the 30" wide tool chest/cabinet
The red box in this picture was replaced with a Craftsman ball bearing SS unit.

Looking at these
{1} http://www.aclifts.com/single-post/ACC-6.asp
{2} http://www.hardingsteel.com/suvlifts.shtml
And the two Bend-Pak I see the Vp post here from time to time.
{3}http://www.bendpak.com/car-lifts/parking-lifts/PL-6000.aspx
{4}http://www.bendpak.com/car-lifts/parking-lifts/PL-7000X.aspx
I do not need the extra hight That the 7000X has.
One car is 48" tall and the other is 55" how much more room is needed

I assume that you want a lift only to store two cars in the garage. The single post lift will do a nice job for that. Just don't plan on using them to work on cars.

You'll need to add the height of the two cars (103”) and add the thickness of the ramp to have a minimum ceiling height. However most lifts have locking height in increments of about 6”. You'll need to see how that'll fit the equation. Plus a few inches clearance. And the floor may have some slant... Also make sure that the garage door will clear either the hood or trunk when it's up...

You may want to take another look at a four post lift. The overall length of most standard four-post lifts are about 14'.. If you shift it to the front of the garage, it should miss your tool box.... Then you'll have a lift you can work on cars with...

What's the measurement between the toolbox and the attic stairs? I think that's what's going to be the decider.

The 100" ceiling height is also going to be an issue unless you're garage door is VERY snug against the rafters and you're not using a center ceiling mounted opener.

Dannmar makes good lifts to I would check them out also:

Old car guy said it because most lifts lock every 6" you might miss the optimal height you want for your cars but what can you do? How long is the area between the end of the tool box and the attic stairs? By approximation I would say you could definitely get a four post in there.

The attic stairs will be moved over, and the ceiling will add 28" in center.
Plans are to relocate the garage door tracks and install a side mounted opener
From the tool box to the kitchen door is 160"
And from the tool box to the far edge of door is 197" I still have to retain a walkway for the washer/dryer/,freezer/water heater/air compressor that is lined up on the far end.
Right now that is 3'4" with the car parked and 12" behind that.
It was my understanding that the BendPak single post has center drip pans that are removable
If extra hight is needed for the garage door to open, The car i need to add room for is a convertable,
So pulling it in on the lift with the top down would add clearance for the door, it is 48" from floor to header

The door from "Kitchen to Garage" is what I am most worried about. As I can move the attic stairs.
My wife would not be happy if she had to go outside the home and enter the Garage to wash/dry clothes or get stuff from the freezer.
Looks like $4800 and up for a parking lift.
But I have a car with 20K in parts and no place to work/keep it.
I need to lift the done car up and have room to work on the project.
Now sits in a carport at dads since the body shop took me for $$ and then gave it back worse off.
I have parts in the home, in the attic, and in dads place.

That ***** man. There are a lot of crappy shops out there. You have to be very careful and choosy.

Good luck!

I have a single post lift in my garage which I will not need when I move into my new toy garage. I am located in Orlando, FL. It was purchased from Superlifts. It will be for sale soon at a very good price if you are looking for one.

Your ceiling is too low. How do you fit 103" of car height in a 100" ceiling? And that's without clearance for the runways, garage door and just clearance in general as lifts have to be raised slightly before lowered.

That is present hight before I make it higher.
I posted dimensions as is, if they would not fit after no reason to tear it out and make it higher.

I called / emailed a few places the diagram above and the 2 cars hight and asked what the final hight would need to be. How often the locks are 4" 6" ect.

One said that a 4 post would work but never heard back.

340six,

I think I would agree with most that a four post would be the best choice. Less money and increased service clearance for wrenching. The single post parking lift is nice, but there are some structure parts even with the center decks removed that may hinder underside access.

After looking at your space, I see no reason why a BendPak HD-9ST would not work - seems like there would be ample room. If your rear tire stance is wide set like a Viper, Vette or Ferrari, you may have to go with the wider HD-9 model. Take a look at these floor plans.

http://www.bendpak.com/HD_9ST_C.pdf

I suggest you get a crayon and start marking your floor to see how either of these two lifts would fit. If you want to talk customization or a hybrid lift set up, I’ll hear you out. [email protected]

Will the 4 post on the 4 post style fit between the 160" that I have from tool box to door?
If not then I will be looking at getting the 2 post upside down "T" type you sell

Thanks for the pictures of the layout.
The 4 post would block the tool box and or door.
I guess i will save a few more $$ and get the 2 post as that would better fit the needs of the space I have.
The PL7000's hight would be best with the 119" tall column hight but looks like they no longer make it.
Also more extended ramps removable would also be nice
