Looking to build a shop in Norcal....

Hello,

I'm currently pricing out a shop for my property in Redding CA. I've got a list of metal building companies and have started to get pricing. The prices range all over the place and I'm looking for recommendations from members that have dealt with companies in northern California? I would like to hear from fellow members on their experience or who they recommend?

Right now I'm looking at a 40x50x14 metal building but may go to 40x60 if I can afford it.

Are you going to assemble the building yourself, or subcontract, or have a builder assemble it? I am curious what you are contemplating, Red iron, pole building, etc.

I am south of Sacramento and just had a 50x90x20 eve red iron building , used a contractor that won't go as far as Redding, but they did a great job. Building contractors down here will be swamped once this rain stops, they have been hurting just after they finished mine and it even was delayed some from the wet weather.

If I go with the tube style metal frame building I'll just build myself. Pole barn I would probably build myself but I'm leaning away from a pole barn style building. The clear span metal building I was just quoted $30k for a 40x60x15 and $20k for installation plus groundwork and concrete.

Do have a set of plans and specs that you are providing for bids? If you call these companies and say “I want xyz” you will get whatever they think you need and prices all over the place. You are buying weight so when you are comparing bids look at the weight. For that size building I wouldn’t expect more than 1,200 pounds difference. Try and stay away from brokers and look at local suppliers. If I was given a chance I could usually meet or beat internet prices. Plus a local guy knows the area and soil conditions and other possible quirks.
