I say keep an eye out for a used box. You will save a ton of money. BUT if you can swing it and this is something you really want and can afford I say go fot it. Ive purchaced quite a few new tool boxes in my time and only had one I regret buying.

If I were in your shoes, I'd expand my search out to 4-5 hours away. I see plenty of very very nice large SO, MAC, and Matco boxes on CL around here and they're selling for 25-50% of the cost of a new one. It might be worth giving up a Saturday and taking a road trip to save $5,000... (Actually you'd probably be saving closer to $8,000 after interest)

+10 Cast a bigger net. I bought my Snap On toolbox for about 25% of new, three hours away from my house. Typical situation, seller lost his job, needed cash to pay bills. There are always many Snap on boxes for sale within 2 to 3 hours of here.

With some patience, time, smart shopping, and some help. You can build your own toolbox. I got mine that way. I started out with everything I need from Sam's Club at 400 bucks on a 72" x 20" x 37.5" tool box. I upgraded quite a bit of things on it over time. I have a laptop computer port with usb hub, extra outlets for charging batteries, battery for a cell phone/charging port, Stereo Surround Sound, lighted lower cabinet with neon blue lights, bench vise, and thermocooler for drinks. I am still under a 1000 bucks US. I work on Aircraft, so having mine plugged in to a wall outlet all day is easy to do.

The box.
