As the title says I'm looking to make my 2135 TiMAX quieter. Gets annoying after a while with the bay doors closed with the cold weather. Anyone ever had to silence their impacts before? If so how'd you do it? Would it be easiest to try to find the QTiMAX body with the integrated muffler?

An easy cheap way would be to find a thin pre-filter foam surround for small gas engines, and experiment with it. You could cut pieces to muffle all you air tools with even a small one. Cut a piece that fits the exhaust.. if you need more, stuff in another piece..you get the idea. If you choke it too much you will lose power...or just blast some Static-X while you work..you wont notice the impacts noise so much! LOL!

Roll up a 1 inch slice off a scotch brite pad and tuck it into the exhaust port. I did this with my IR231H and it made significant difference and little to no loss of power.

I find the actual hammering action of the socket to the bolt to be the loudest part, not the internal part of the gun. I try to wear ear protection because I don't know how else to make it quieter.

+1 on that. You could make the air motor virtually silent but the hammers are still going to be making most of the noise. Earplugs man!

Electric impact....

You can put a rag in the discharge/exhaust area as well, just don't cause a true blockage.

Wes

You mean cordless? Most are noticeably louder than my pneumatics.

OP, I seem to remember looking up a new QTIMAX body since the standards are more common on the used market. Came to the conclusion its not even close to worth it. Your best bet would be to buy a QTIMAX and sell your existing.

The hammering is certainly one of the loudest parts of an impacts operation but there is a very discernible drop in noise from the whine of the motor with the muffled versions. I can deafen a small shop with my MG725 simply running with no load. Pop the piece of foam in it and it becomes quite tolerable.

2135TIMAX 100dBA (no load speed)
2135QTIMAX 86dBA (no load speed)

MG725 isn't quite as effiecient at quieting down but still goes from about 100 to 92ish dBA.

Keep in mind the human ear perceives a change of 10dBA to be about twice as loud.
