Hi, I currently have mounted on the wall on the door side in the center one florescent bulb style closet light, My closet is about 9ft tall, 10 Ft wide and 3 Ft deep. The light is hard wired and on a switch. I am looking for something that I could easily replace and would be brighter. the closet has sliding doors ( not that matters I don't believe ). I would like to keep the current wall box and just replace the fixture, I was think I would like to get something longer.

Thank you

I took down the flourescent fixture in my walk-in closet and put in a round LED fixture with a motion sensor. All I have to do is walk by the door and the light turns on - no more fumbling to find the switch.
I found one on Amazon that mounted to the ceiling box where the tube fixture was. I put the same fixture in the toilet room so I don't have to look for the light switch when I get up to pee at night.

Bonus feature - every once in a while the light went on in the closet and I could see it from the bed at night. A mouse got into the house and into the birdseed in the closet down the hall. It began to fill up my shirt pockets with birdseed but was dispatched with a trap.

That looks like a special bulb that goes with that particular fixture. It says it is a GU24 base. If you dont want to replace the entire fixture then do a search on "GU24 base LED bulbs" to see what is available.

If it was me i would replace the entire fixture with something with a long inline type led tube but I dont know your capabilities or how much room there is where the light is mounted.

Seems to me you do not want a fixture. A fixture puts out all the light from one location and what you want is a little light coming from all directions.

Look at this 12 volt tape light in my closet. It glues its self to the wall around the inside of the door so this closet has about 18 feet of lights.

I also put a magnetic switch on the door so the lights come on when the door is open.

I don't have an outlet in the closet to power a rope type light. I would like to replace the fixture but maintain the current box The light just isn't bright enough. I did see motion type rechargeable lights but not sure if I would like them as most turn off after 20 sec or so.

seems you have 120 volts in the room that is switched. any fixture would suffice, assuming it has enough lumens for your needs.
get a bright led 120v fixture & slap it up there .
the problem with fluorescent is they don't come to full brightness for a few minutes and by then you're probably out of the closet. as they age they get dimmer too.
LED comes on at full brightness in an instant

You may not have an "outlet", but you DO have a fixture of some sort that powers your current bulb. :dunno:
Easy enough to replace to what's needed.

In the upstairs 'room' over my shop, I have flat square LED lights that stick down about 1/2" from the ceiling. They are stricly surface-mount, so their power cord is visible. The small wall wart that powers them is plugged into a duplex receptacle in the ceiling, which is powered by a switch near the stairs. Might be something that could work for you.

As a finishing touch on our remodeling project, my son installed lights and switches similar to what @walta suggested. Did one set in the utility closet that has pull-out drawers (used to be the pantry cabinet) and broom storage, and another set in the coat closet. Works very nicely.

Regarding the motion-sensor lights: Yeah, most of them turn off after 20 seconds or so, but the ones that I have turn off about 30 seconds after last movement was detected. As long as you are still in its range, it will stay on.

I can do that it's just not around the corner for me it's a 45 min to an Hour drive to HD and Lowe's is well over an Hour. Next time I go I'll look was just wondering if you guys had any other ideas. I did look on their websites but nothing popped out at me. You'll never see the light as it's about the double sliding door I just need more light.

I guess I am spoiled. HD and Lowes both 10 minutes away. I will probably be at HD sometime this weekend. If I see something I will let you know. I know exactly where yours is mounted and seeing something in person makes a difference.

The one that I put in ours is about an 18" long fluorescent tube with a pull chain to turn it on. I did not have a box in the closet like you do so I ran a small extension cord to an outlet that is just outside the closet.

#walta has the best set up. You could replace your existing fixture with a duplex receptacle and then plug in the transformer for the LED glue on strip lights.IMG_2129.jpeg

I was thinking about sort of the same thing except maybe a duplex plug and two shorter tube fixtures, one on each side. That way you would spread the light out further.

I installed a different light and it is bright but doesn't have enough room to spread the light out, So if I install an outlet is that code compliant for a closet?
I would just hook the wires from the light fixture to the outlet and it would then be switched correct?
Thanks

You could install this over the round box and then install a hardwired strip light over this plate.

Get 2 4' single LED fixtures and **** them together to connect. One of them will be over the existing wall box where you will extend those wires to connect both fixtures. You can possibly use an existing knockout in the back of the fixture or will require drilling a 7/8" hole with a holesaw to pass the wires through.
Paint the closet or at least the ceiling for better light dispersion.
