SORRY for you lost . Dogs just love you .... Take care .
That was baby. If you had her out walking or playing somewhere and there was anything that resembled water for her to cool off, in she went.
We used to dig pits in the ground to place the end of an auger. They would usually have some leftover corn, soybeans, wheat etc. in them, and when it rained the pits would fill up with water, that stuff would eventually spoil and create quite a mess. Our Saint Bernard, Jumbo, would jump in that stuff and lay there for hours. He always looked and smelled great afterwards. That seemed to be one of his favorite places on our farm.
I am truly sorry for your loss. I know it hurts and I dread the day when we have to put down our 13YO Black Lab. We had the vet remove a tumor from the inside of her mouth about six weeks ago and the biopsy was inconclusive. She's had hip problems for a while and it seems like her hearing is going pretty quick.
I'll give my dogs an extra hug in memory of Baby.
It is like losing a member of the family. We lost our Golden Retriever at the age of 7. She was a rare gem who would fetch a rock (the same rock in the lake) every time. We called her Tionesta.. We had to get another golden puppy immediately and it really helped us to deal with our loss. I am sending you a picture of her Summer May JunerJuly her AKC name.... Each day it will get better consider getting a new puppy in time
Sorry for your Loss,
Jack

I'm so sorry for you're loss. I lost one of mine a year and a half ago. It's so hard, they're like having toddlers. I can't say enough good things about dogs, or any animal for that matter. They're all unique, nothing but a bundle of pure love. There's a site called rainbows bridge .com you should look at, very sweet. Hey, it's losing a kid, I'm still heartbroken. I absolutely believe they're waiting for us in heaven, check out that site and best of luck to you, Joe
In a few months, consider a rescue to fill the void. IMO- they make the best dogs. I have 2 right now & love them to death.
In 03 my wife was working with a local homeless pets place. They had a lady come in and ask is anyone could foster her Sharpei while she(the dog) was pregnant because she was going out of state for a few months. My wife did and in Dec of 03 5 puppy's were born. One of the pups had pneumonia and my wife ended up carrying her(the sick pup) around in a baby sling until she was well. Sadly the pup missed out on much needed socializing and became rather stand offish(do note all 5 puppy's and the mom were fixed and all 5 pups went to good homes and the mom went back home).
Fast forward about 7 and a half years later. Bailey Ann is a mean looking but very soft hearted(she has snuck naps with my 2 year old in his toddler bed) old lady. So long as she knows you she loves ya to death(it's taken 3 years but she likes me, loved my son the day we brought him home, but barked at my parents when they come by).
She started blind and getting kinda skidish because of it. As is if any of us 3 comes up to her she will bark and growl until she caught our scent or gets close enough to see us(less then 2 feet). She never snapped at my wife or I and more importantly our son. But we do worry that it would happen as the blindness progresses. That risk plus the fact that we are expecting our 2nd child in November(worried about how she will react to a 2nd child). We took her to the vet and they examined her and confirmed she was nearly 100% blind, about 60% deaf and her sense of smell was at about 50% plus a lot of massive allergy problems. We ended up putting her down to spare her the pain she was already in and would be heading into.

Due to how hard my wife and our 3 year old schnauzer were taking it, we decided on holding off on getting a new dog for a little bit.
Last month we took up some old towels, sheets and blankets* we had to the homeless pet place my wife used to work at. Well we got to talking to the owner and found out they had a female lab mix that was from a single mom, great with kids but was going to be put down at the end of the day because no one wanted a mid sized lab mix(every one wanted full breed, big or small dogs, no mutts).
The owner offered us Molly B for free, Molly B has all of her shots, does not chew on things or dig in the yard, is spayed and is potty trained. Age is around 16 months and she is 100% grown:

So far we have figured out that she responds to sit, lay down, speak, go potty and heel when my wife says them. It's 50/50 if she will reply to me yet(mind you she did come from a female owner. She is very very gentle with our 2 year old and hasn't picked any fights with our other pup.
*All cridder shelters need these items, if you have any extra or just want to get rid of some, call your local shelter and see if they can make use of them.
This is the first pet that I've lost. We had a couple of pets as a kid but no memory of them dieing. Man this is way harder than I would have ever thought it would be. Baby was such a HUGH part of my life. I was with here just about all day everyday. She would be by my side on the floor) when I would go to bed, she would get me up in the middle of the night wanting out, she would be right beside me when I woke up the next morning. My oh my how I miss that dog.
Sorry for the rambling, just typed out a thought.
Thanks again everyone for all of the kind words, it really was nice of all of you.
Gary
Hey Gary, it's not rambling, it's grieving, and perfectly all right....
So sorry for your loss. I lost my first dog a little over a year ago to the day, first dog as an adult. She was a 14 year old Cocker Spaniel and it was the hardest thing ever. Even right now I tear up just thinking about her as she was as human as a dog could ever get. I could have one sided conversations yet she responded in a way that it was obvious she knew and comprehended every word I said. She was the best dog in the world.
Last December I was at my grandmothers house and she was taking care of my uncle's Long Haired Chihuahuas. I hate Chihuahuas but there was one of them that stood out, it took to me and just didn't seem to act like a yapper. It was only 4 weeks old at the time. My grandmother asked if I wanted it but I knew my uncle would never give it up, she said for me not to worry about that. I wrote it off as she was getting senile. A month later (this January) I got a call to come pick up my dog. My grandmother passed in May so this dog is very special. She'll never be as great as my Cocker Spaniel.
In time, you'll be ready for another dog. My new puppy does mean the world to me even though she'll never be expected to replace my other dog. Keep talking about her. There still is barely a day that goes by when I don't mention my Cocker Spaniel.
My new puppy..

We lost this guy when he was only 18 mos old, one of the saddest days of my life.
I find the pain has faded, but the memories stick around.
Sorry about your loss.

Handsome dog, I fully understand, we had to put down our 11.5 year old female Boxer today, she was only sick for two days, f*cking liver cancer.

Hello
Our family had to put down our lil Yorkie (she had a terrible stroke) that was in our family for 15 years its hard and my parents took it hard..However, I like to think of it as 15 years of having the pleasure being with her and a part of our family.
