Power that is ....

My studio is two buildings -- have had flickering occasionally with the FL lights. Replaced a few bulbs and even one ballast trying to solve. The spaces are all 8' T12's. It was so infrequent -- could not pinpoint over the past months.

last week while I was there -- they went out. Happens that each buildings lights were on a different leg. The property is under construction so I'm not in the house .. lost power on parts of the temp panel.

Anyway -- I called the power company ... they must have fixed it on Friday. I wonder what happened?.. the line is only about 4 years old

I had the same issue a while ago. Half my house went out. called power company and they found across my neighbors front yard it was hot and they had to dig down and replace the section that blew out. It was funny to see that they looked for hot spots in the yard to find out where the break was.

happened to me when we first moved in, twice 2 years in between... .but didn't get that of a good treatment here...

first incident I called, sounding like a yound lad.... they questioned me, how do you know, are you an electrician ? and dismissed me... So I move the breakers to the other leg. Until the neightbor who shared the same drop have an electrician called... (the transformer blew according to them)

the second time around, lost one leg again few years later... same question, how do you know.. as if.. I told them I put a meter on the incoming lines and didn't see 120V on one of the legs between that and Neutral... the guy was shocked, sends a truck out in two hours in heavy rain , fixed the issue, something got lose from the wind...

Here is the kicker, that call must have flagged something on their system, the next 5 years I get meter inspection request every months.. stating that the meter must have been defective, needs a meter reading... despite I have paid for remote reading thinggy installed...that is until I have to paid to move the meters outdoors... (yes old building have meters indoor)

I'm glad it finally failed before I "tried" to fix more lights!

Naturally, it was on the leg that was only powering that set of lights. The dehumidifier and refrigerator in the building is obviously on the other leg -- my guess -- would have noticed a sound change had the dehumidifier's power flickered.

My first thought was ... open up the panel -- but, nothing I could really do. Was not going to play with it live .. I did not want to pull the meter should it be an obvious problem with the feed from meter to panel.

I figured ... since the main breaker is outside even, if it was with my equipment -- the power company would take a look.

I had that happen after a nearby lightening strike. They fixed it pretty quickly. Unfortunately, one of the breakers was powering my sump pump, so I got a little water damage.

The same strike below out the fuses on my phone land line. It took longer to get that one fixed. The technician showed me the fuses. They were basically powder after the strike. I can't believe nothing was damaged inside the house.

Our power is the worst. Lightning, even miles away, causes brown outs. During hurricane Harvey we lost power for 2 days when no one else lost it in the subdivision.

I lose a leg in a aluminum crimp at the aerial drop at the service entrance called and got the same response "how do you know it our service and not your panel" I told her well my panel is still attached to the wall and your wire is hanging in the breeze about to fall on the neighbors kids swing set...................they sent a guy right out.
So then I asked if he would re-splice the other 2 while he was up there no they look okay to me was the response....................he got to come back in the January snow storm to do the other 2 :)

I may not be a electrician but since they all had been hanging there since 1956 makes sense to me that they all should have been done..............................
