I lost one socket when I was 16 and just started working on my car and decided then to be more careful. From that day forward I always keep track of my sockets usually putting them back on the hansen tray or in a tool tote when I change sizes. I haven't lost a single socket (or tool for that matter) in the 8 years since until...

The other day I was in a rush to clean out the garage and I decided to strip an engine I took out of my car down to the block and sort it for scrap/parts/hardware. It was about to rain and I was in a rush and sure enough I lost my 12mm Kobalt/Williams 3/8" impact socket.


I know it isn't worth anything but it chaps my *** knowing I will have to replace it, probably with something that won't match.

Anyway that was my pointless rant of the day, sorry for wasting your time.

Knock on wood I've never lost a tool. But I have drivin double the speed limit to catch a car I've left it on!!

I have 3 little boys that love helping me in the garage. About 2 weeks ago the 2 yr old comes out with a hand full of sockets and a ratchet to help. I thought it was cute as heck until I put tools away that night. The 3/8 Dr 1/2" deep impact socket is still missing. It was a genius socket, and got replaced with a wright socket. I hate miss matched sets, but its a small price to pay for the quality "help" in the garage.

I've found the most reliable way to stop losing a good tool is to replace it with a cheap tool that barely works...then suddenly you can't ever get rid of it

Sorry for your loss,

But the other day my wife's traverse was in the shop because of a dead battery. I found a new 10mm snap-on impact swivel.

I made sure it found its way home

I feel your pain as well. My dad always liked to buy me hand tools when I was younger and he still finds deals today and will pick me up a set as well. I remember he bought me this nice wrench set that that fit perfectly in my roll around box.

I have tried to get into the habit of putting these tools back in their home when I got done using them but this one time I think I left a wrench in my racecar when I got in a hurry. When I noticed that this wrench was missing I literally wasted hour after hour looking for this one wrench. It never showed up. I figured it got slung out of the car as I was sliding around the race track. I was so aggravated because I had this open hole in my box. So I went to my dad and told him what I had done and asked him if I could forever borrow the same wrench. He agreed and everything was well again!:willy_nil

Just wait till you have teenagers.

I used to go out to the lawn in the spring to do a treasure hunt to find tools exposed as the snowbanks melted.

Sounds like your kids do not respect you then. I would only gotten away with doing such a thing "once" like that as a teenager as the punishment would preclude from thinking about making that mistake twice.

I lost my dads 10mm wrench once and he never let it down. I tried to replace it once it a companion brand and he was pissed because it didnt match the set and it was not until i was older that irealized that that wrench set was the only complete set of tools he had everything was mix matched and terrible orginized and on top of that it was a harbor freight set i couold have bought him a new set for five dollars. He held that wrench over my head for years for a 15 cent wrench.

Lost my dads 13 mm craftsman socket about a week after he bought the set, I told him I was going to a friends to drop off a hoodie I went to sears bought the whole set cause they didn't have the individual socket placed the 13 on his rail and now I got a set missing the 13mm drives me nuts but it saved my *** lol

Pick up another set through Cripe, and then you'll have spares for all the others. Of course if any were to disappear, it would be the 12mm again, that's just the way things go.:D

My 5/8" Williams stubby wrench left the shop on the back of an air compressor, I'm sure it's still stuck on there, truck just never came back in while I was working there.

I started chasing a T47 to match my late 90s SK set. I lost the chrome insert style one and replaced it with an impact.

If I run across one, would I buy it? Yeah.
Am I going to keep searching for it on a regular basis, taking hours and hours to find a socket for which I have a functional replacement? Nope.

How.about losing a snappy magnetic 8mm,buying it again and losing it again.looks like I don't need it that much.also lost 1/4 ratchet before,all in customers vehicles, also lost a snappy 1/4 8mm swivle in the dash of a new explorer.i could hear it but couldn't find it.had to buy a new one too.as for family using tools, I grew up with my dad teaching me to always return his tools back to where I got it from in the condition I got it in.if I didn't he would lock his tool box.i still go by that to this day wether its a shop tool or a coworkers tool.but it seems now that I got my own tools and box at home, my dad has forgotten his rule.hes been using my tools and not returning them and my brother too.i have marked them now, but I just don't like going through my dads truck box to find my missing tools....

I bought impact replacements from Lowes last month and chrome from Menards. Only down side was the didn't have 6 pt chromes. Lowes has a good price on the impact singles.
