Got a pile of craftsman for cheap at Goodwill. I think it was because the ratchets need cleaning badly. Thank god I don't have the room to be a proper hoarder. When I was reassembling the 1/4 ratchet the selector ring went flying. Two hours of searching later its still mia.

Use the ring out of the kit but if all the other parts are fine, use the original parts because they are made so much better than the newer ones you'll get in the kit.

Finding good tools inside a goodwill is pretty much impossible around here. I only got lucky once with a bag of craftsman sockets and ratchet all i find now is overpriced Chinese junk i could get cheaper new!

At least you can find the chinese stuff. Not a tool to be found at any goodwill around here. All you find in ours is leisure suits from the 70s and kids clothes. Oh and maybe a 100 table lamps.

Barely i find maybe a screwdriver or pliers once in awhile but they price them at $3 or $4 each. Most of the time just misc hardware and crappy flashlights thrown on a shelf. I stop at them maybe once a month now since i know it is just a waste of time. There online auctions are not any better people bid more them the tools are worth or cost new.

You're not alone. I was cleaning and regreasing my 3/8 teardrop CM ratchet when that friggin ball bearing popped out, rolled onto my garage and down the driveway into oblivion. I had to buy a whole new kit from Ebay because Sears said they don't carry the kit for that ratchet anymore and told me to try Ebay. I bet you that ******* is hiding somewhere still laughing at me. I'll get you someday with my new magnet, whoohahahahha.

You can get single ball bearings at any well stocked hardware store.

I was cleaning a 1/2" dr ratchet last week and the ball bearing flew out twice. Not sure how I managed to find it both times. I really should have bought a lotto ticket after that.

The one here is like a Big Lots; lots of unopened merchandise probably donated from other stores. No tools, not any even any cool looking antiques anymore.
I can't even find decent tools at pawnshops. Hit up three yesterday. Usually it's all power tools, and what they do have is damn near full retail.
Flea Market and eBay are my only sources for decent used hand tools.

Agree on Goodwill, around here they don't have tools. The Habitat for Humanity Re-Store is a different story, but I've yet to find anything good at the local store.
I bought an older Williams M-51 Superratchet that felt like it needed rebuilt, took it apart and there was a pin inside that had snapped. Finally made a new pin, when I lost the f#@king ball bearing the pawl rides on. Of course, the bearing is not a standard size and I couldn't even find one at work or at the hardware store. So now the pieces of that ratchet reside in a Ziploc bag, same one I should have dismantled it in.

Nonsense.They bought the things somewhere. Figure out the size and buy 100 on Ebay. Then you can sell them for $1 each and get RICH !

Went to Sears, it took a bit to convince them I didn't want a new ratchet, or the wrong rebuild kit. The guy looked offended when I explained that the ratchet I had was an older model. I did finally get the missing part so happiness reigns, and I have a set of craftsman ratchets with the oiler.
