Lost the Keys to My Toolbox

Uh, oh. Can't find the keys to two of my boxes.

Changed out an axle Wednesday evening. It was getting late when I finished and I was getting tired so I locked my box and left some tools on the workbench. [Residential home gamer, FYI.]

I went out to the garage today to finish cleaning up and putting things away.

Toolbox keys are not on the usual place.

Hmmmm.

I'm not locked out because I have a spare set, but lost keys are frustrating.

The romantic hills of central Umbria, Italy,
Check in the 3rd drawer down, left side, wedged between the socket rack and the drawer liner...

(guess why I picked -that- location?)

This was after changing my locks out because I was paranoid someone grabbed my keys and was going to clean me out while I was on vacation.

Look in your pants pockets. That's where I usually find my door keys when I think that I've lost them.

I usually find them in a lock like the gate or the door. Once I was missing my keys for a week when I finally found them in the door lock of my camper which was parked in the front yard.

I'm laughing because I don't lock my tool boxes or my garage doors, and in fact leave them open most of the time, unless it's windy out, and right now, my keys are in my truck ignition out in the yard. But, wouldn't it be funny if someone was ripping me off as I type this? I might have to go out and lock up my **** now!

Ditto.:) I do take the keys out of the cars I'm not driving, but there hung on the wall in the open garage.:dunno:

My toolbox and storage cabinet keys are on the same key ring by themselves and it is never taken out of the garage. They get hidden in a spot only I have knowledge of. It took me a little time, but I forced myself to get into the habit of unlocking what I need access to, then putting them on a magnetic hook on the side of one of my cabinets where it's right in my face whenever I'm standing at the bench or in front of the toolbox. If they're not on that hook, everything comes to a halt until I find them.

Back when I was at the gas stations, a newby mechanic lost his keys with his toolbox locked. When we asked if he had spare keys, he told us, "They're in my toolbox, so they don't get lost or stolen"...

Coat pocket of the coat you forgot you were wearing. I’ve gotten to where I never put any keys in my pocket or lay them down except the vehicle I’m driving. Hold them in my hands until they are back in their spot. No exceptions.

I was hoping DK would come back and tell us that he found his keys by now.

Found them this morning under the mail on the kitchen counter!

We usually accumulate a week's worth of mail before going through it. I did that this morning and the keys were at the bottom of the pile.

Today I have have to do my taxes - got the last bit in the mail this week - and return to the garage to finish putting away my tools.

At least they didn't end up in the box with the axle that got shipped back to the dealer as a core!

I can relate to a weeks accumulation of mail before going through it, mainly because the mailbox only gets checked once a week. Lol. I don't loose keys often but when I have lost them I do a good job. Found them in the refrigerator on one occasion and, after searching every room in the house multiple times (so I thought), I located a lost and almost forgotten key ring on a shelf in a utility closet about 2 months after losing them.:lol_hitti

Ever notice they are ALWAYS... in the last place you look. I don't lock my boxes either but my garage is like fort Knox... with cameras...

As I was typing... I looked at the driveway camera and noticed my car is missing...

Found it at the seed shed right where I left it... but forgot about it. That was a heart pumper...

Only thing worse than thinking you lost your tool box keys is thinking you lost your wedding ring... Happened to me twice during the past year and it really ticked me off. First time was at a gun class I was taking at an old Scout camp, we were all bunking together in a cabin and went out for a group dinner on Sat night. Reached into my backpack to grab some clothes and it must have slid off my finger while taking it out of the backpack. Discovered it was missing at the restaurant. I was looking in the parking lot, bar, etc for about an hour before giving up. Found it the next morning. Last time happened a few weeks ago. Had work gloves on, took them off with the ring in it and threw the gloves in the back of the truck. Discovered I had lost ring a few hours later. Didn't find that one for a few days. Hope you find your keys soon, know the feeling...

I thought I tossed mine into the wood burner one time with a handful of other things. Luckily I had set them down before I grabbed the other stuff.

I think I'd get that ring resized... :eyecrazy:

Whenever I'm not wearing my rings I thread my bracelet through them and close the clasp.

When I worked in an office where I had to slide my security key card it was always found in "yesterday's shirt pocket" :bounce:

Mine fit close enough that there's no way they can come off without it being intentional. I only wear jewelry for non-work related use.

I don't have that problem. I refuse to wear any jewelry. I have seen a guy get his finger degloved when jumping off of the back of a truck. No thank you. Besides that any jewelry bugs the **** out of me.

We didn't even bother buying me a ring. When we bought my wife's ring they let us borrow a ring for the wedding. You have to love small town jewlers.

I rarely lock my toolboxes. Unless people/kids will be in the garage (like when we have parties out there). It's a pain in the *** since I have like 8 different boxes with 8 different keys that all look the same. I would like to get them keyed the same some day. But again, I don't lock them often enough for it to matter.

As it stands, you have to pass a locked gate and a locked steel door, all the while being on multiple cameras to get anywhere near the boxes in the first place.
