Was in one of the larger Sears today, rows of empty shelves in the tool dep't and quite a large number of empty hooks scattered throughout the rest of the dep't.

The rest of the store (clothes, appliances, tv's, etc.....) looked fully stocked.

Wonder what's going on...........Sears maybe starting to phase out tool sales?:shocking:

Huge sale on this weekend and lots of specials in the tool section. Mine was the same -- they had a midnight sale and they did generate a lot of traffic. They're restocking all day today

I got that same creepy feeling the last time I visited my local Sears a month or so back, that visit left me with the impression that Sears is really beginning to noticeably fail. I recall feeling the same thing while visiting Montgomery Ward during the last years of their existence as well. The last 3-5 years MW was in business the tool department was gutted and was about like visiting a Big Lots store, a bunch of import, no name **** no one wanted! I really think Sears is going the same way.

I know many here will say good riddance to Sears, but I will not be amongst them. By and large, Sears started and has continued to be my new tool brand of choice for most stuff over the years, so if and when that time comes I will really be sad to see them go. :(

A couple of my local stores have been doing inventory lately. There were quite a few empty spots during that inventory. Couple that with a couple of recent strong sales, and that might explain things.

My stores have been restocking those empty spots in the last week or so. Hopefully yours begin to do the same.

End of year for a lot of the stores. Small inventory is best. Which explains why they are restocking this week.

this is what I was thinking. I don't think empty shelves is necessarily a bad thing.

Like UB, I don't want to see Sears go.
Actually if they had a dedicated tool store, or if they opened up Craftsman stores, I wouldn't mind, since I don't buy anything else from Sears anyway.
Unfortunately, I've seen a lot of the free-standing Sears Hardware stores close down.

I always get paranoid when Sears has empty tool racks too. It seems that they are always reorganizing and when they do, the size of the tool department shrinks each time. The tool selection has really dwindled recently at the local Sears. Maybe they're moving to more online tool sales to reduce store inventory and cut costs.:headscrat

Saturday Sales have become a Sears staple; it generates cash flow for a company in dire straits.
