Hey everyone,
I bought a good sized air compressor from Sears and it came with set of air tools. I think the set is okay but not for serious users. I already had to replace the impact gun because the one they give you wasn't strong enough to break loose my Acura crank pulley bolt.
I also went to use the air ratchet provided in the kit and boy was it loud. Not the mechanical noise but the air running through it just made it so loud that the whole neighborhood can hear it. Is it possible that there are quiter air ratchets on the market?

Ha ha...I have the same one. I don't have another one (yet) so I can't say for sure, but I would hope a nice IR would be quieter.

I always figured that was the nature of the beast. I've get a few air ratched and I would love to use them but they hurt my ears to much.

IR makes a "quiet" version of their impact guns, I wonder if they make a "quiet" air ratchet?

Well Usually composite tools are quiet... Not the case. I have an IR1200 air ratchet, and its not as Loud as the impact (well close up it is, but the you cant hear it from as far away) but it is a much higher pitched sound. A bit irritating but I really dont mind considering all the work its saving me from doing.

so No, IR doesnt make quiet air ratchets hahaha

I would look into air cat. I think something like 82 decibels... go on the IR website and look up the specs for each of thier tools. Find thier most basic basic ratchet and It should be about what the craftsman is, use that fr a comparison

Ya, the air ratchets are pretty loud. I think I have the same one as KartRacer, and it will really fill up the area with noise.

Loudest air tool award goes to my IR Thundergun... I have a 90something foot driveway and even when your using it in the garage at the end of that it can be heard loud and clear across the street hahaha

The neighboors officially hate us.... probably should have thought about the sound BEFORE I bought it lol

I think the aircats have the quitest rating. Northern has a sale on some of their stuff right now. You should wear ear plugs when using those bad boys, even the "quietest" ones!

Hey Y'all,

I don't think they designed them to be quiet.Just like a hot rod the less exhaust restriction the most free flow of the gasses.

Drbill I correct if you want to wake the neighbors or bust a bolt lose or smash your singer nail off the Snap!On FAR72B Is the Loudest Baddest 3/8 High Impact air ratchet I've ever used..

I have 3 of them BBBBBBB Bad to the bone {Ouch!! that hurts!}:headshake 1 finger nail for each one!!!

My buddy and I were up to 6 a.m. doing struts on his RSX and screwing around with my car. The houses behind my warehouse are about 50 feet from my back door, close enough that someone there called the cops on my girlfriend and I when we got into a screaming match one night. We had the air hammer going, 1/2 impact, 3/8 impact, and the die grinder, all because the technician at the dealer had a big impact gun and screwed the key up putting the wheel lock on. I was waiting for the darn cops to come, they never did though. Hahahaha. Maybe I should look into the air mufflers.

I recently got an "Air Cat" impact which was referred by someone here, and they are reasonably priced and from what I can tgell a good quality tool and they are sooo quiet it's wierd, my thundergun spends most of it's time in the drawer in favor of the less expensive, lighter, quieter aircat, I can only assume their ratchets would be quiet as well

Yeah, its funny, my heavy duty Craftsman impact is really quiet too thats why I was shocked when I started using the ratchet which was rediculously loud.

I hate to argue with you but if you ever get a FAR72A and a FAR72B next to each other you will know which one is louder. Either one is a bad mother when it comes to torque and smashing fingers. When mine was new I could take out head bolts with it
