Hoping Rickairmedic or one of you guys might have some answers on this....

Had a new HE Goodman furnace and AC installed in April. Haven't had the furnace on yet (other than some initial testing) but have run the AC plenty this summer with no problems. AC has been off for about three weeks now but turned it on yesterday when it warmed up. AC was running but kinda felt like it was having trouble cooling the house so I went downstairs to check it out.

Compressor outside was running and the furnace blower was running but there was a fairly loud hissing noise coming from the A-coil in the plenum. So much so that it sounded more like a steaming tea pot. When I tripped the breaker for the compressor the hissing noise faded away just as if you took the tea pot off the burner. The ducts felt cool but not really as cold as I have become accustomed to.

So that was yesterday.....today I turned the AC on again a few hours ago to see what would happen and everything seems to be normal. The hissing noise is down to its normal level and the temperature of the air seems normal as well.

I was all ready to call the installer on Monday but now I'm not sure. Highs are supposed to be in the 60's now this week so it's very possible today or tomorrow will be the last day the AC is on til next summer.

I'm no expert, but could this have been something going wrong on the expansion valve or orifice tube or whatever is used to take the compressed gas and expand it to cool it?

If he recently installed it i would call him to check it out rather than wait until spring when you fire it up again. Most manufacturer warranties on parts are only good for a year or so.
