I finally have something to post. This is a Rob-Bilt building and crew. I am located right on the Mississippi River about midway between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The crew showed up around 10:30 this morning and the lumber about an hour later.

End of day 1 1/2. Note the bookshelf girts which I learned about right here. This six man crew is awesome.

Looks good lowell. :)

BTW, are the roll-up doors installed?
I'm also curious as to what are you going to do for a floor?

Concrete is next. I agreed on a price with the finisher this morning. He will start this week and we will pour somewhere around the 6th of November. $1600 worth of steel will be delivered Monday. Two 1/2 rebar around the edges and highway mesh everywhere else. Probably overkill but you only get one chance to do it right.

After the concrete is done I wll order the doors. They will be Amarr insulated commerical jobs $$$$$.

Then spray foam the roof, white metal ceiling, fiberglass in the walls. cover the walls, electrical, plumbing, etc. I'm tired already and getting poorer every day:)

Coming along quickly for such a large building.

I'm wondering the same thing (seen this before, but still don't know why they do this). Under the impression that it would rot faster this way as well, particularly with the newer formulation of treated lumber. :dunno:

The polls directly in the ground seems to be pretty common, but makes me uncomfortable as well. I assume its a cost thing, cheapest possible way to get the polls installed. I would think a footer and then metal bracket to mount the polls to would be better, or something similar...

Sweet building none the less, and its coming along quick! Good crew for sure.

Most pole builders use "lifetime guaranteed" pressure treated wood. I have seen some old posts come out of the ground looking as solid as the day they were put down 20-30 + years ago. Some post building contractors use plates and brackets on top of the footer/slab. Every builder has their preferred way and supporting argument.

These are ground contact treated poles. My dads old barns are 50* years old and were built without treated lumber and are still there. This soil is very sandy and drains well.

Concrete today. Started at daylight and not finished at dark. The finisher said he will be there till 9 tonight. I said I wanted it smooth and he said it will be. Nice, slow cure. High or 68 today.

I need garage doors and spray foam for the ceiling now. Any South Louisiana guys have any good contacts (deals:) in the BR or NO area?

Nice shop. Aren't you worried about floods? The building behind is jacked up on stilts.

Nope. In this part of the country the closer you are to the Mississippi River the higher the elevation. Way back before the levee's were built the river overflowed it's banks and that water was full of nice silt from up north. This built up the land over time.

I have a 40X72. I would like to add a couple of doors in the end of mine later. When Dad built mine he put a 17' on the west end, and a 12' in the northeast corner. I would like to put 2 12' in the east end and do away with the NE door. I was wondering about the size of your doors, and the spacing between them. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I also had in mind of the 12 x 12 doors, just wasn't sure of what spacing to go with.

Update time. Here's some pics of the foam job and interior room work. I had them spray the corners and bottoms. I will do fiberglass everywhere else.

The interior rooms are done. Plumbing happens next Saturday and wiring after that. Then sheetrock.

lowell66dart, now that the dust has settled, how is Rob-Bilt?

Yrusoslow, I assume you are in the Louisiana area, who have you got quotes from on the building?

Just started myself, only contacted Millet so far... looking at 40x60x14

Thanks in advance
