The build of my shack has begun. This will however take some time (years), since I don't have the money for a GC and builders I pretty much have to do it my self with some help from my family and friends.

It's not much regulation to build it, since this is an active farm there is no need for building permits and such for this kind of buildings in Sweden.

I have longed for this for about 20 years and have a dream about what it will become when finished. So her it goes the dream.

The fotprint will be about 17m x 10m, 170 sqm (55,7' x 32,8, 1829,8 sqf) with a loft 10m x 10m, 100 sqm (32,8' x 32,8', 1075,8 sqf) and a attic 20m x 2,5m, 50 sqm (65,6' x 8,2, 537,9 sqf).

And then come the snow and cold (-17° c) So its gone be a holdup in the building for a couple of months. But I will work on the design and post some more sketches.

Well, the estimated cost is just short of $60 000 and that is mostly material cost. With out doing it my self it would probably cost round $150 000.

It was some amount of dirt that had to be removed, about 2825 cubic feet so I had a friend to come over with his little digger to help me out.

Congrats, Moon, on the groundbreaking and reaching for the stars. Now I've a guestion for you. When you do your layout for framing what type of dimension do you use? I guess what I want to see is a good photo of your framing square.
Good luck, Scot

THis is going to be a great shop -- I like the design -- it reminds me of a stavkirk (spelling no doubt leaving much to be desired) . . . . .. .

That's right Bomber, I'm inspired by the Stave church and the regular norse longhuse. Since it's to cold and snowy here now för building (at least for me) I'm workin' with the construction/working drawings and i will try to incorperate som viking age building technics.

Don't forget the verge boards, and, perhaps, dragon heads on the roof peak!

Some of those old churches are 1000 years old -- the builders knew ow to desgin a wooden structure that shrugs off the affects of weather . . . .

can't wait to see more!

It's midwinter and the sun barley makes it over the treetops.

Merry Christmas to all of you and in Swedish God Jul.

Nothing more has happened with the build so far, it´s to much snow and to cold for me to get out to work. About half a meter of snow and the day before yesterday it was -20° C (-4° F). Took out my Can-Am for a drive.

But the days are getting longer so in about a month the snow will start melting. It´s hard to have to wait, but it will be fun to start all over again.

Well, it's still cold outside (-30C, -22F yesterday) and a lot of snow so there is not much happening with the build, except some drawings and sketches, but I can show you an outside pic of my current place. It is taken from inside the house. It's about a month left 'till the snow starts to melt away so I have to be patient.
