Low clearance garage door options

I've got a garage with a relatively low ceiling and a tall 4x4. I'm looking to go with taller tires, but only clear the door by about 1/4". Currently the door is mounted with a double track system and I'd like to convert to a single track setup that still allows the door to seal. Anyone have experience with the options that are out there? Searching found me a few products, but no real answers about whether they actually work.

This was a major issue for me with my old garage. You could go to a sliding exterior door but that only really works if you have no winter snow. Have you considered raising the entire garage?

Is the door on a electric opener ?? You should be able to adjust door travel to be at or just above the door opening. My new chamberlain can be set up this way. My old opener WOULD NOT OPEN to FULL DOOR OPENING.

I've got plenty of ceiling height for the 1-2" I want to go up. The garage itself has about a 7 1/2 or 8' height. The door is only a couple of inches lower than a standard 80" residential garage door. Mainly, I want to remove the upper rail on the double setup and mount the single rail in it's place.

41, I do that in the summer when the top comes off for the season. :D

jonzer, raising the garage isn't an option since it's underneath my living room. Someday I'm hoping to put in a 3rd bay and a lift.

BD, I've adjusted the opener as much as I can.

What I'm thinking of is something like these:

I just don't know if they actually work or not, or how much additional wear they put on the door.

How tall is your ceiling and how tall is your door exactly? Those products do work in the right situation, but you need to provide more details. Also are the springs torsion or extension?

Look up overhead doors in your local yellow pages and give one of those guys a call. Explain your situation and ask to buy the track you are describing. I've done that several times over the years without any problem. I think even Home Depot can order the track for you.

Pop the opener latch and push up to clamp with vise grips? I do this with my trucks to clear them.... I get about the extra 2 inches I need for my Ram.... but the bronco on 42s .... thats a different story.... so glad I get to put dual 9x8s or 9s when the GF and I buy a house.

at least you can get your 4x4's inside.

current trail truck is the only one that i could ever get in a residential garage.
