As some of you know I've started another chapter in my career. I'm now working as a machinist now. I need to put together a decent set of tools. I COULD drag all my really good (Snap-On, Mac, Matco, Cornwell) hand tools in to the shop. However since I left wrenching, I have grown accustomed to having them at home. Plus my big triple bay roll a way would not work in this shop.
On the advice of more than a few threads on here, I bought the HF 5 drawer tool cart. http://www.harborfreight.com/five-drawer-service-cart-95272.html
While I was at HF I picked up a 8 pc set of Pittsburg Pro Screwdrivers http://www.harborfreight.com/8-piece-professional-screwdriver-set-94607.html on sale for $8 I put a set in a box I bought for my 16 year old nephew and was impressed with the quality, after that I put a set in my box and find myself reaching for them over the other sets I have.
Stopped by Lowes and saw one heck of a sale on 12pt full polish wrenches. Buy the 10 pc SAE and Metric set 87083 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2- 8,9,10,11,12 mm on sale from $24.97 for $14.97 and get the 10 pc SAE and Metric set 87084 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, 3/4, 13/16- 13,14,15,16,17 mm for FREE. Retail price on that was $19.97. Buy the cheap one and get the $20 one for free!!!
I need a set of SAE hex key set. Craftsman has a nice 13 pc set of ball end ones for $20. I seem to remember Enco having Bondhus ones on sale a little while ago for real cheap, I may wait until that sale is back. Sounds stupid but I liked the colors.
I also tossed in the hook and pick set from Menards. Its awesome and was only $7 So far the only tools I bought used were 3 slide jaw wrenches (Crescent) I found a 12" 10" and 8" Proto set at a flea market $20 for all 3.
I will need an 8" pipe wrench, about $5 at every flea market in the world. A nice Rigid will fit the bill perfectly.
My measuring tools will all have to be quality as they will need to be sent out for calibration as the shop is ISO 9001.
As I find out what other tools I'll be needing I'll be posting up looking for suggestions on what tools you guys would suggest. Keith
