Hey guys, I've been reading a lot of posts on here to get an idea of which coating to go with. I still can't decide. Does anyone have a recommendation on a low cost quality coating? Obviously, I'm looking to spend the least amount as possible. But I don't want it to look like **** either. I will be putting this on new concrete. I figure I will need 3 weeks of cure time before I coat.
Any help would be duh appreciated. Thanks

Don't do anything for 28 days. Hydrate the slab for the first 7 days.

I used Eagle Natural Seal on the concrete slab in my barn.

It's available from Home Depot, $78.92 for a 5 gallon pail. Shipped to your door for free.

It doesn't change the look of the concrete, just seals it.

Water beads up nicely.

When I was installing my 2 post Rotary Lift about a quart of fluid (Auto Trans Fluid) leaked out onto the floor, I cleaned it up, you can't tell it ever happened. That proved it's a good sealer to me.

Check out my build thread below.

Our HD6525MMA Concrete Sealer is available in clear, semi-trans and solid color.
Low cost and good looks.

I am in the same boat, with many hours and days lurking on this forum I probably will be going with the HD6525MMA. I have a garage that's 991 Sq ft. It would be about $500 for me to prep and add 3 coats of the HD6525 with some cherry wax. I don't trust myself with Epoxy and the local company wants $3500 to do my size garage. Another option is also HD40 with some cherry wax. I still could go that route last minute since I just use it for parking cars.

We have an inexpensive sealer at around 20 cents per sq foot that we have used in aircraft hangars.

Email us directly for info, thanks.

Basic garage floor paint
Worked well for 7 years that I was in that house
Easy to mop or sweep or degrease
Easy to touch up when I scratched it
I did automotive work there
Welded on the floor...etc

:+1: I did my old house with benjamin moore paint that lasted 3 years before I sold it (probably still holding up). Had no plans on selling the house when I put it down. Looked great even with two cars pulling in and out in all sorts of weather. I even did oil changes, carpentry work in my old garage. The biggest part is the prep before installing.

Oh and scan craigslist for this kind of thing. A friend of mine just picked up leftover unopened epoxy coating used at a dealership that was being built, you never know. Just be sure you buy enough!

Basic concrete paint doesn't soak into the concrete and protect it like a sealer. It sticks to the surface.

I used concrete paint on my 1st garage floor, circa 1985. It had a broomed finish and was fresh concrete.

Rolling a floor jack across the surface would wear / chip off the paint, then any oil would soak into the concrete.

It also didn't hold up to weld splatter.

With a good sealer.. that's not a problem. And the Eagle brand sealer is as inexpensive as the floor paint.

Here are a couple of photos of our economy sealer recently applied.

Highly resistant to most chemicals and fuel. Notwithstanding that this was a hangar, the contractor wanted something on the inexpensive side.
