Low headroom garage door

Hi folks,

I am still considering garage doors. I have a limited amount of headroom above my garage door. From the top of the header over the door opening I have 9" of clearance to the concrete deck ceiling.

I have emailed I Drive to see if there set up with long springs might work. I am also considering building carriage doors if a roll up won't work.

Does anyone have an experience?

Thanks,
Bob

With 9" of headroom you should be able to fit torsion and a standard opener with double low headroom track.

You can make extension springs and a standard opener work with 6" of headroom.

-------------- -------------- hey Bob, don't go with a standard opener,, they are ****. Use a liftmaster direct drive unit. It couples to the spring shaft, and it's quiet, smooth, and none of that "janky" useless **** that's just wastes space. (here are a couple pics) I'm really happy with mine,, i've got 14 inches more travel out of my car lift,, and now, i can stand my 8ft ladder straight up under the garage door tracks. My garage door runs,, within 1" of my ceiling.

Problem is with the low headroom, the springs will wind backwards and you can't use the 3800. Well they say it will not work. I have always wondered if you can mount it upside down to the ceiling with reverse torsion but have not tried it yet.

I probably forgot to mention that I am 6'3" so the low tracks probably aren't a good choice. The folks with I Drive have a system to work with the long springs. It uses a dummy shaft across the middle.

I have email them also for more data. I will take a look at the Liftmaster stuff if I can find a web page.

Thanks for the posts and help.
