I only have 10ft ceilings in my shop, and if I add a trolley and a hoist to my new gantry, I'm going to lose an appreciable amount of this headroom over anything I want to hoist.
I have been using an HF 880lb electric hoist for many years for another application and it has worked well.
This series of hoists all have steel straps that I think are intended to "wrap around" the top of the I-beam from which they are hung, allowing the hoist to tightly "hug" the underside of said I-beam, providing very "low profile" and low loss-of-headroom. However, this does not provide a trolley versatility in that it cannot easily travel the length of the I-beam.
I'm thinking about fabricating a plate with trolley wheels, to which these HF electric hoists could be attached, providing the same minimal loss of headroom, and the versatility of a trolley.
Anyone on the forum done this, or seen it done?
