Hey guys looking into buying some low profile sockets in a 3/8” and 1/2” drive. Was looking at either Sunex or Astro. Anybody here have these? What’s the feedback? What other options are out there? Thanks!

But using astro feels more professional! Better service, most likely

Thanks. I've never seen them before. These cannot work with a wrench though. So still less low-profile, overall, than Astro's offering. But I do like chrome better than black finish. Maybe get both?

Dude, you really should keep VIM in mind as a supplier . . .

This is 9 pc costing more than 14 piece from Astro? I don't like chrome that much!

Not concerned with price, not concerned with putting them on a wrench. Neither one shows the actual specs. I want some that are as short as snap on low profile. Concerned that the imports might not be much shorter then snap on normal shallow

In 3/8”, I have the Cornwell extra short. They are terrific. I do not know if they still make the same style. They are quite old. I also have about 2/3’s of a set of an older MAC version plus some spares. The price ($5) is still on the Cornwell set.

In 1/2”, I have the Astro Nano. I am still ambivalent about it.

I have the 3/8 set and the wrench from Astro and I love them.

For 1/4 low profile sockets, I picked up SAE and metric sets from O'Reilly's for about $14 each.

The thinnest 3/8" drive ratchets I have are around 0.5" thick so that would give you about 1.25" for a 14mm low profile socket. Or are there thinner head ratchets than 0.5" that I am not aware of?

All the low profile sockets I have seen online and linked here are 6 pt. Does anyone know of 12 pt low profile sockets in chrome for 3/8" or 1/2" drive?................. I should have looked harder before I posted this quesiton. Snap on does make a 12pt low profile socket set with a low profile ratchet.

Do they stay in the wrench from Astro?
Yes, there's a wire ring in the wrench opening that must hold the lip of the socket.

The wrench was expensive but worth it. My only complaint about it is I wish there was a lever to change direction rather than having to pull off the socket and flip the wrench.
