Low Rise lift ?????

I've got an AMMCO model 2230 low-rise lift in my garage, that I purchased new, many moons ago. It recently has refused to lift up. When I push the button, it starts to go very briefly, but then nothing. It's full of fluid, and I kind of thought maybe the valving for the release handle could be stuck???

Anybody had any experience with this brand lift? Thanks Bill

As long as when you said "nothing" you mean that the motor still runs but the lift won't rise, you most likely have either some debris in the valve or it is worn out. To clear any debris, hold the lowering valve open and run the powerunit. This will flush out the valve. If that does not work you will have to replace the "O" ring in the lowering valve assembly, don't worry it is easy. Getting the replacement "O" ring will be the hardest part. You can match it at the hardware store or identify the powerunit and get the "O" ring kit.

Thankyou Dave. The motor does run, but the unit won't lift, other than a budge at the start. I'll try what you suggested Saturday and let you know. I appreciate your response. Bill

Tried to back flush, that did not help. Motor runs, and lift just starts to go up, maybe 3/16. When you push the down lever, the platform drops back down 3/16.

Got the valve out and looking at it, I see 2 o-rings (red in color) on the outside. Is this what needs replacing? My unit is a Fenner model SAB 1019, if that helps. Thanks. Bill

Those O rings in the lowering valve are usually the first to go, but if they are not visably damaged you most likely have a pump issue. The fenner stone powerunits have rebuildable pumps with O rings. I would compare your vintage to the models in the above catalog (tank style is a good indicator of vintage) and then call SVI for a pump O ring rebuild kit (item 17). The only other thing it might be would be a burnt capacitors on the motor but that does not sound like it is the case with your powerunit. Fixing it is the best option as a new replacement powerunit would run $700-$1000 (aftermarket-OEM). I hope that helps.

Well, this project took longer than I had planned. First had to get the car off of the lift. It needed to get repaired anyhow.

The o-ring kit suggested by Dave was the ticket. The old o-rings were really rotten and falling apart. In looking through my papers, I discovered that I purchased the lift in 1989. So, in retrospect, it was time for some maintenance. No surprise, the lift works better than I have remembered in a long time.

Kudo's to Dave for helping me figure it out. Total cost...$37.80 for the o-ring kit. Again, thanks Dave.
