I am replacing 12V exterior spot lights on the pergola on my deck. The old fixtures were installed on an outdoor box and cover. I would like to get rid of the box and just mount the cover directly to the wood pergola. I would prefer to eliminate the box because its bigger than the spot light. So there would be two wires under there connected with wire nuts. Any issues with this code or otherwise.
