Low, wall mounted lighting?

Has anyone mounted fluorescent strips or any other sort of lighting low on the walls to help with lighting for under vehicle and wheel well work. I'm thinking of a 4' (maybe 8') double bulb fixture on each side of the garage, about 18" off the floor to assist in oil changes, brake jobs, etc. Can anyone comment on how well this might work??

Rather than mounting on wall, I picked up 3 of these telescoping pole lights to aim at areas that need extra light. Lots of flexibility in getting the light where you want it, the telescope will go low enough for tire areas and and high enough to shine on an engine. I think I got them on sale at Kragen for about $20.00 each.

I like the idea and was also pondering it, but I was wondering if that might make shadows up and under a little worse?

they work great. all the mechanic shop do it, and if you keep yours eyes open, you can pick them up free whenever business change out lights.

Just an hour ago I bought 2-4ft T8 4 bulb each lithonia wrap around lens(light comes from 5 sides) from home depot($59.87each) for the same reason, should have them mounted this week end.
