I love to bash stores when they don't live up to my expectations on GJ so I thought it would only be fair to give credit when stores do a good job.

So I'm at my usual haunts looking for tools at garage sales and fleas around town. I was talking to a usual flea market guy who I buy SO from mostly. He's a usual seller and has the same booth every weekend. I pick up a 14MM deep impact from him for $5 and as I'm leaving I spot a pair of cobra Knipex on his table. They're rusty and it's missing the middle pin so it's broken. I ask him how much and he says $1. I figured for a $1 I'd try and fix it or get it warrantied.
Later I take it down to the local Lowe's since they carry them in stock. I tell the guy it's missing the pin in the middle and show them to him and he tells me he will just exchange them. Awesome.
I know some of you guys will flame me but it's a lifetime warranty and I have several of the regular non cobra type in my box already. I'm sure my SO dealer would have swapped them out for me too no matter where I got them.
My point is Lowe's stands behind them at least in my area and NO they are not clearanced here.

Lowe's will be getting more of my business from now on. Hopefully if those sets of knipex go on sale again I'll get some. Definitely buy house stuff there if I have a choice between them and HD.

I've never had a bad experience with Lowes, sounds like they did you right.

I've turned in more than a few broken tools (Including one of the "compound" needle nose pliers I had tried to cut a hardened allen key with, and ended up breaking them clean near one of the joints, lol) and they took them without question. Of course I keep receipts on all tools, but it was very expedient and no hassle service.

They're my go-to when I need standard tools (The ones they have that are US-made anyways :D )

Lifetime warranty on a tool is lifetime warranty on a tool. You didn't rip anybody off.

thats good to hear...i took a pair of klein "channel locks" to home depot and they told me too bad,you have to call klein...that put a bad taste in my mouth for home depot so lowes has been getting most of my buisness
good customer service is the best thing a company can do to sway you to go back to them

I prefer Lowes as well, just because of their service. Last noght I went to one needing a few bolts I miss placed. The guy in the hardware department was a retired mechanic from Fed Ex.

He spent A LONG time with me, went way beyond my expectations.

Depot pushes you off to the manufacturer.

I agree on that point about HD. I bought a faucet from them 13-14 months ago for a bathroom remodel. It was a budget faucet (Glacier bay brand) but seemed ok when installed and it worked fine. Fast forward to today and the nickel plate is peeling off the hot handle. Can't get them to replace it in the store and they basically told me I should have bought a better brand. I asked the employee why they sell it if they know it's not good quality and she said it's because people buy it more. ?????? It's the American way nowadays. Buy the cheap chinese made **** and when it breaks throw away and repeat. and the company that sells it just gives you the finger.

I recently swapped a 3/8 ratchet out with no trouble...gotta say it was the first ACTUAL 'hassle-free lifetime warranty'.

Provided you spend a lot of cash or get an "easy" chance to build up your credit (by snagging a few tools and assuming some lovely debt).

I'll take the easy option, and go to the store.

My dad works at Lowes...he says it's the largest tool rental company in the country. They will accept a return or exchange on ANYTHING.

My father bought a Kobalt 3/8 air drill taking it back, the trigger stuck and Lowes replaced it with no problem. My father was asked to put an extended warranty on it and said yes when he bought it.The replacement still works with no problems.
