I would think stores would have a procedure that cycled the existing product to the front when restocking to keep everything fresh. Oh well, we benefit!

Just an FYI, but the Brazil and Mexico files have an "N" appended on the model number. That might help with trying to search inventory online or something.

I went back today and cleaned off the rack. There are still 3 other Lowes in my area...dammit. I'm gonna go broke!

It's weird, you almost hate seeing a good deal sometimes.... when you are short on funds you know? Too bad deals can't just come along when you are ready for them with cash in hand!

My local Lowes didn't have any US made files, but this thread prompted me to clear out all the US made files the local Ace had in stock. No sale, but I'm glad I got them, so thanks OP.

I picked up a US made file at Lowes today. They had maybe ten different types of Nicholson files on display and maybe half of them were on sale. Of the ones that were on sale, only one type (Crosscut?) was made inthe USA. It also had a very prominent red white and blue USA logo on the front of the package. Didn't need the file, but it was on sale and US made so what the heck. I think I paid five dollars for it.

I have a whole drawer of USA made Nicholson files. Came with a tool box I bought. Never thought much of it.

I cheated I bought 3 files from lowes that were usa and 4 that were not because I thought it was still a good deal. Decided to go by a ace on the way home from work found those same 4 files all usa and returned my brazil ones today with the same part number back to ace! awesome

Thanks for the deal OP !

USA in the back must be a nationwide thing.
Just back from Lowes and I got 4 files COO USA.
Thankfully the USA printed on the front helps when looking through a full rack.

Hit another store today to find they were 100% Hecho en Mexico. There were tons of boxes of Kobalt branded files waiting to be stocked...they looked pretty similar, I wonder who makes them?

Stopped at Lowes in Mansfield (Ontario) today, they have no more wood handles left. I bought the last ten of them. I also picked up a few files that were USA made. There were two more but they went to a buddy along with 3 handles.

My Lowe's had full shelves of Nicholson files. Only the 8" utility files were USA, the rest were Mexico. The handles, from China, were marked down to $1.02. I bought the last 4.

Personally I didn't need any files since I score a **** load from the Amazon sale 2 years ago.

Just got back from the two Lowes closest to me. First one had only one USA file, a 6" mill. Went ahead and picked up a 8" round and half round since I needed them, they only had one of each, and they were still half price. Second store was the real score. Cleaned them out of the last 8 handles and about 10 various USA made files in 12", 10", and 8" lengths. No more round at all there though, and a single brazil half round.

I swear though, this sub-forum has cost me more money in the last month....

I agree - nothing but pure temptation foisted upon the pure and innocent by a bunch of heathens. The whole thing needs to be shut down along with all that *********** on the web that.......

Wait - nevermind -not willing to give up either one :rocker:

I found one. The only one in 3 Lowes that I went to...

Great now I'll be visiting even more Lowes to find this elusive file to complete my collection. It's more about the thrill of seeing hidden USA tools than anything. :pimpflash

This section is driving me bonkers. I came to see if sears had anything I could spend my points on and found myself heading to Lowes with the intent of buying just a few handles for my dads files. I wound up buying 5 files and handles. Two were made in Mexico and Brazil but hopefully later tonight I'll find their US counterparts in another nearby store.

Found a few USA-made at my Lowes amidst many more non-US-made. Picked up 3x of the 8" and 3x of the 10" plus an 8" with a handle all in one piece. They couldn't even find a price for it so they gave it to me for the price of the regular 8". No handles available though.

Not to sound like a total newbie but, what do u guys use your files for?... "For filing duhh"

No but really, maybe it's just my line of work but I don't think I've ever needed a file. I don't work on automotive though so really I am just curious.

Only 2 USA files at my local Lowes and 2 USA at local HD. Lowes didn't have a lot left. Picked up a few other files, a Knipex mini bolt cutter, a file brush and a bunch of handles.

For mill and lathe work mostly. Taking sharp edges off and what not. I have wanted to to try and make my own knifes as well. I bought some tool steel a while ago, so the stack of files I got might come in handy for that.

I haven't found any round (except the gimmicky looking 4" wood rasp) files at any lowes I've looked. I also haven't found any USA handles of either style. For those that have bought handles, have any been USA?

The very helpful (and attractive!) CS woman who helped me with my internet handle order said these are "no longer on stock". She said that means they will not be replaced - when they're gone, they're gone.

I bought 7 handles to cover a set of files I bought during The Great Nicholson Amazon Deal of 2009.

All handles "Made in China to Cooper Hand Tools Specifications".

The rubber handles I found which were marked Cooper were made in China to Cooper Specs or something like that. All I saw were China

I found a few USA files at my local Lowes and one last handle all of which were on clearance. I could have bought a few more but a guy standing next to me looking for something else was wondering why I was rummaging through all the various size files and I told him I was looking for the USA made files. He asked if there were any left but I had already cleaned out what remained so I gave him a couple each of the larger Mill and half round files. I was lucky enough awhile back to get in on one of the later Amazon file deals so it was nice to share the bounty with another file aficionado... :)
