What I have noticed is that when a store's computerized inventory hits zero, the price sometimes defaults to normal.

I think this is true when looking prices up online, but no so in store.

Example: Item is Reg. $49.99 but clearance for $9.99. If item is in computer inventory online will show clearance price, but once it goes OOS online price defaults back to $49.99, but if you go into store and there are actually 5 in stock, you will pay $9.99 at register.

I have stumbled onto great deals in store, and loaded my cart with everything on the shelf. when I get to register and pay I ask if they can check to see if computer shows anymore in stock. sometimes they show negative numbers, but i still got the low clearance price on all. YMMV, just been my experience

WOW you got the number for them

Here's my favorite.

I bought 133 2x4x16' for $1.25 a piece.

They were changing the SKU so they put them on clearance. Only to replace them with identical 2x4x16s with a new number.

Damn. I need to jump on those kind of deals. Where do they keep the wood stocked that is on clearance? I've seen piles of stuff out back before and then some things are out front. I always thought those were waiting for customers to pick them up who have paid.

The best way is to know some one who works there.
Then they must pay attention to the non stock items

Managers are willing to discount things to clear them out. Especially if you buy all the rest of what they have

edit: the link doesn't look like it's working right... it's the 5 piece large combination wrench set. 23-30mm

oh, and I just picked up 2 sets of stubby wrenches, SAE and Metric for $8.99 each!

Found a couple deals at lowes...

Hobby set for $8.98 was $19.98
Door bell for $6.49 was $53 :eyecrazy:

I wasn't in the market for a doorbell but the original price was crazy and the clearance price was great. Plus it's one of the obnoxious musical ones with 29 different songs.

Anyone have an item number on the screws? Didn't see any today at Lowes but not sure if I was looking in the right section.

some of the bulk screws, nails, etc vary by region. I'd imagine it's low margins and freight costs really factors into the equation

You guys will like this!

Went looking for clearance items at lowes and found this:
jpg8xi.jpg

25 pound boxes of steel shims.

I bought all 23 boxes they had left for about $25 including tax.

Drove 10 miles down the road to the scrap yard and collected $65 for my effort :lol_hitti

I hit up the flea market today with my proceeds and got a few nice tools for basically free! (posted in garage sale thread)

Some of the Bessey clamps prices in my area have started to drop more than the typical $1 or so. Some of the larger bar clamps (K clamps) are over $10 off.

Just curious, what are these shims used for?

I got some 5/8 Braided Polypropylene Rope for 8 cents a foot at my local lowes. I bought a whole roll of 150 feet for something like 12 dollars.

I don't know what the shims are used for. They just looked like scrap 1 inch by 4 inch pieces of steel to me. They are maybe just a regional item and they were made in Colorado. I checked a couple more lowes nearby and they didn't have any, maybe a special order that wasn't picked up or something like that.

Someone once told me that some building codes require metal shims when a shim is deemed "permanent".
