I found one of those stainless 3 drawer boxes last night for $32. The quality isn't the best, but not bad for $32.

Ordered a stainless toolbox last night for 16.07 +tax. Hopefully the quality will be decent on it but regardless that's a lot of box for 16$
My local store only had one for $32, most of the surrounding stores were out of stock, one had two for the same price, and one had one for $64. I didn't see it lasting long enough to drop price again so I went ahead and snagged it for $32. Seems a decent box for the price for sure. Haven't decided my use for it yet, I may use it as a "quick access" box for common tools at my workbench, or I may give it to my father in law like I did the $35 cart I got a few months ago. He has an old friction slide Kennedy box that is older than I am that is way overstuffed, this might could take a little of the load off.

Last night, the hardware/tools manager of my local Lowe's had a cart with a bunch of assorted bare cordless tools at the hardware desk. I asked whether she was clearing out display models and she said yes. I asked whether they still had the batteries and chargers floating around somewhere because I might be interested in working out some kind of deal...

...and she said that they threw them and the boxes in the dumpster a few weeks ago to make room in the overhead bin thingies in the tool department.

Yeah. My Lowe's threw out hundreds of dollars of tool batteries. Guh. I swear I'd dumpster dive there every night if their dumpster weren't the completely enclosed compactor type.

...Not only that but isn't that kind of illegal for them to dispose of batteries that way? IIRC my local Lowes has a battery recycling bin up front in the customer service area. Surely they can't be that stupid...or can they? :lol_hitti

I dunno whether it's illegal here, but it sure is stupid. Tossing batteries in the trash isn't exactly environmentally-friendly.

It's even dumb from a business standpoint. She could have at least slapped a $20 price tag on them with "display model: no return" or something and gotten some easy sales.

A few weeks back while I was on vacation, the "higher ups" did the same thing.
EXCEPT.
We sold ALL batteries for $5 each. And threw away all of the display cases.
One associate bought about 30-20v dewalt lithium batteries for $5 each and said he was going to put them on eBay

Now as soon as we put a new tool out as a display, we are to sell the batteries for $5 and when the tool goes clearance we sell it at a discount

I truly doubt that they threw the batteries in the trash. That Would get people fired if it was true

^I was itching to order one but I remember my M12 multi-tool can do the same but faster.
How do you search for the clearance items on their site easily and efficiently? I can't ever find any of the listed in this thread on the site.

How do you search for the clearance items on their site easily and efficiently? I can't ever find any of the listed in this thread on the site.

Maybe somebody else can actually explain an easy and efficient way, but what I do is search (near top, first page at lowes.com) by item number. Then, click on Store Pickup button and click Change Store. That pulls up the list of area stores and the number of items they each allegedly have in stock. Then, when you click on one of those stores, you can see the price which that store might be charging. I repeat the Change Store part to find prices at other area stores.

In my area there are several Lowes stores, all within less than 20 minutes or so. Prices for any of these clearance items will vary widely at these stores. And sometimes, a store will actually have a clearance item in the store, at a low price, but not show any in stock on the online inventory. Or, the price in the store will actually be lower or higher than the price listed online.

As they say, your mileage may vary!

I think he wants a way to search all clearance items on the lowes site. On Sears you can search craftsman in the tools category then select discount off as an option.

No fast way to search for Lowe's clearance tools, unfortunately. The Lowe's clearance page only shows things that are being cleared out nationally, not things being cleared out in phases the way most things seem to be. For the last month or so, the only tool has been a 4pc NiCad Porter-Cable set.

The most efficient way to search for clearance items at Lowe's is still to go to the store and start walking the aisles. If you do that three or four times a week, you'll quickly figure out where you need to walk and the fastest way to check the necessary spots.

I go to the mistint rack in paint, then do each and every tool aisle, then the hardware clearance rack...where they put tools at my store when they need the tool department shelf space for the replacement SKU, then finish up at the hardware desk...where they keep tools that have been freshly marked down but not put on a shelf yet and open box/display/missing items stuff.

I do the same route, but add to it the very back corner of the store at the intersection of kitchen cabinets and plumbing (obviously won't be the same for every store layout, but it is for my 2 local stores). That is where my stores put the overflow clearance in addition to the places Monomach mentioned. Everything from plumbing fittings, to lawn/garden, to tools. Hint: This is why when you look at the clearance items they tend to come up in weird places on the website such as a set of wrenches in plumbing fittings category. Typically if I look at a clearance item, and see them in that odd category, odds are, if I go look for it in the store it is actually located out of place, in that area.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I need to become a regular at Lowes because I live 2 miles from one.

:rocker::rocker:

these will come in handy

finally picked them up at a local store to me, they were happy to price match.

Thanks for posting this. I needed some for an upcoming job repairing a storage shed so I picked up a few boxes.

They had these "hid" on an aisle near the lumber -- about 20 aisles away from the rest of the nails. A large piece of paper "accidentally" happened to be covering the clearance price. Wonder how that got there. :headscrat

Yeah I found mine over in the lumber section too. I guess since they are supposed to be used with PSI treated lumber that was the reason?

also snagged this Kobalt Magnetic Tool Rack Item #: 71053 | Model #: 61063for 2.80. seems like it could be of use and for $3 why not.

I grabbed two of them at $3.50 each. They had more, but the rest of them looked like they were run over with a fork truck.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with these things.

All the stores in my area have 10 packs of Nicholson 12" hacksaw blades on clearance for around $2-$3 depending on the store. The 2 packs are under a buck.

That might explain it. They have a very thick coat of galvanized. They shouldn't rust for a long time.

They keep the nails in the lumber department probably because USP makes a lot of building hardware too like joist hangers so they want all of their products together. I believe they are made in the USA too. In the main isle of nails you have grip rite and blue hawk both made in China.

Bought out the enitire inventory (8) of the magnetic tool holders at my local lowes. Took them to work and cut the handles off so that they would fit the long way in my hf toolbox. Make for excellent socket rails.

How big are the racks? I'm having trouble visualizing it from the pic at Lowes website

Hmm, they don't really seem to use the space well though. I guess that's necessary so the sockets don't end up all stuck together though.

Its item number 71654.

Certainly not for everbody, but after trying the HF trays and finding that there weren't enough pegs for my 3/8" sockets for each type I figured I'd rather have something that I can layout myself. If I had a garage with every tool I'd ever want then I would be more concerned with space savings, but for my apartment toolbox, its more than enough.

Stopped by the local Lowes last night and grabbed the blue socket tray for $3.49. They had a bunch of Bessey clamps in the same area but all were still regular price. A few other things were about 5% off.

Also noticed a couple of the Kobalt toolboxes were 40% off. Another 40% and I might grab one

http://www.lowes.com/pd_351098-55738-PCIC2171_0__?productId=3654158 Now $54.88

Keep an eye on this one, I picked up the last two at my local store for $27$ each. Hadn't planned on getting any mid chests but at that price I couldn't even get one from harbor freight. I'll try and scrounge up my receipt if you want to try and get a price match.

At the Streetsboro, OH Lowes, I picked up yesterday the Wiss WT1 cable tie tensioning tool for about 50% off! The clearance price was $13.99. Amazon sells the same tool for $27.99: LINK. The tool is made in Taiwan. The store had several in stock after I purchased the one.

I bought 3 of them for a little over $6 each. The back magnets seem very week to me while the front magnets are really strong. Are yours the same? Mine don't stay sticking to the side of a metal tool box.

Yeah thats the same deal with mine. The backside is basically non-magnetic, while the front side is very strong. I bought these with the intent of trying to use them as socket rails, so it doesn't bug me much.

I picked up a basic 3/8 socket set the other day for $35 down from $50. 20 sockets (sae and metric) a decent ratchet, and the bonus: 10 stubby combo wrenches. Didn't sound all that great of a deal until I looked closer and the sockets are 6 pt! I haven't been able to find a cheapo set that isn't 12 pt to save my life!

I grabbed this set mainly for my tool cart at work. I do a little wrenching and desk work, so I don't really want to cart my bigger tool set to the shop. I've been building up a smaller, less expensive set for this basic work.
