The green Stanley 6 piece screwdriver set with folding utility knife ( #537170) is usually $15.98 (I'd never pay that), on sale in the store at $4.98. I picked up two, went to pay and they rang up for $1 instead! Alright, went back dug around behind other products and found six more in the wrong location- looks like someone stashed them, an employee perhaps?

Got all eight now and they are going to friends and family.

The two short stubby screwdrivers are China, but the rest is all USA. That said, they are still not great quality and suitable for Ikea furniture assembly, but a folding utility knife is always good and worth the price.

Auburn Lowes? I saw them marked as $1 on the website a few nights ago, but figured it wasn't worth my drive.

Check your welding sections.

I just picked up two 10/pks of Lincoln .030 MIG tips (178843) for $.65 each and some cheapo Task Force welding gloves (178838) for $1.15. There were some replacement lenses for under a buck too.

I also found a set of Wiss 12 1/2" straight snips (105898) marked $5.09 online. I went into the store and there was only one pair and it wasn't marked at all but it rang up for $5.09 :rocker:

You know.....I understand wanting to buy things made in the USA
I don't understand why you don't like tools made in the USA at a fraction of the price, with the same warranty

I bought a set of the metric ones the other day. If they're minimally better than the ones I got at Harbor Freight few years back I'll be happy.

For quality USA-made flare nut wrenches, check ebay. I got a pretty nice set of Proto fractional and metric for $15 total.

Unless you find new old stock at a local store chances are they will be off shore as well.

The 9 piece set is available online only, and is made in the USA. It's the smaller sets that are sold in-store that are made in Asia.

Those raised panel flare nut wrenches have a pretty bad rap on this forum...even the US-made ones.

I've got a partial set from my dad. Late 80s early 90s. I haven't had an issue. I like the mac and blackhawks ones I have. Cman is my second choice of the two

Something about the design and look of kobalt tools just never interested me.

I have a set of new Craftsman RP USA flare nut wrenches if someone wants to buy them. Never used, no rust, etc. I'm sticking with the GWs.

I saw those flare nut wrenches at my Lowe's today. Chinese line wrenches are kind of infuriating.

You just know the corporate genius who decides to cut corners on the quality of a line wrench is a guy who's never even seen a brake fitting.

"Well, what's the difference? These Chinese ones look just like the old US ones, but they're even shinier!"

My only point in bringing Craftsman stuff up in a Lowe's thread was to point out that $19.98 for 6 Lowe's Chinese flare wrenches (which may or may not be on clearance at your local store) is not an amazing deal when you can get 9 USA flare wrenches from Sears online for $26.99 (or less with a coupon).

Wiss 3-in Molybdenum Steel Snips

Item #298973 Model #M400. $7.48

picked up 2 of these at the local lawnside nj store for $8 even after tax. think it was 3.74 each.

There china made though, store showed 5 in stock, nothing on the rack so I had them check the shelves, he found 4 and put the other two on the rack, so if some one local wants them I would stop by soon.

COO is not the only factor. I have GW Chinese, Craftsman RP USA and one Snap-on. The Snap-on is the best, but the GW beats the USA Craftsman hands down.

Pretty sure those chinese Gearwrench are exactly the same as chinese Craftsman.

In other Lowe's news, if you need chinese tin snips for whatever, the three piece Kobalt set was down to $4.20 at my store. Part number is 0501852. They don't appear to be on the website at all.

GW made in China seems to get a pass compared to similarly imported Husky, Kobalt, and now CM. Similar warranty and similar design. Fortunately the "lobster claw" design seems to be fading away making all these brands very similar.

OK I'm confused. Are we talking about lobster claws or flare wrenches?

I have a set of USA RP's. They haven't seen heavy duty use, but they haven't failed me yet. However, if I need to replace them with something I would like to know what affordable options I have. If the GW are good, regardless of COO then that may be an option for guys like me.

I would like to go for SK or SO but even used they are cost prohibitive. And I'm not the only one in that boat. So whenever flare nut wrenches come up there becomes a very confusing conversation afterwards and it only serves to make the whole thing worse.

It the standard open end of a wrench people call lobster claws. Not the flare ones. They use a lot more metal now than past versions so they look bigger.

As for flare wrenches the craftsman one I bought ten years ago are much thinner than the ones they have now.

It must really cost a lot to make hard metal.

What are the lobster claw wrenches? Just an open end with larger ends? Seems undesirable to me or maybe thats the point.

Word? This is the new tool-less chuck model, right? Looks like I need to hit up Lowe's tomorrow, been wanting one of these. Do you have the SKU on the one you got for $49?
